Google's AI Overviews are used by 2 billion people, AI Mode is used by 100 million

Google's AI Overviews feature has been used by over 2 billion people, and its AI Mode search has been used by 100 million users, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said during the company's second-quarter earnings call.

AI Insights provides an artificial intelligence-generated answer to a user's query and is available in more than 200 countries and 40 languages, including Ukrainian. Pichai says that the feature is now generating 10% more queries worldwide for the types of searches where it appears. However, the company's CEO does not say how many people are consciously using this feature, since AI Insights is a mandatory feature that cannot be turned off in the settings.

As a reminder, Google has been hit with an antitrust complaint in the European Union over its AI Review feature. Website owners claim that the feature is hurting their traffic, which is also supported by a new study.

Where the numbers are more accurate is in the use of “AI Mode,” a separate search window that lets users make complex searches in a chatbot-style manner. The feature is currently available in the US and India, where it has more than 100 million monthly active users. Pichai says Google plans to improve “AI Mode” and add new features, including a Deep Research tool and more personalized answers.

Pichai also highlights other multimodal search tools, such as combining Lens or Circle to Search with AI Insights. The company's CEO says the biggest growth is among younger users.

As for other products, Gemini now has over 450 million monthly active users, with daily requests up more than 50% compared to the first quarter. Pichai also said that in June, more than 50 million people used Google Meet’s AI-powered meeting summaries, and Veo 3, a video generation model, has nearly reached 1 million monthly active users.
