Partial 5G coverage in Ukraine will appear by 2030
5G in Ukraine may cover part of the territory by 2030. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Stanislav Prybytko in an interview with Forbes. At the same time, the full launch of the technology has been postponed until the end of martial law, but testing is already planned in three cities – Lviv, Kharkiv and Borodyanka.
Prybytko notes that almost 22% or 9.4 million of all smartphones in Ukraine support 5G technology. The deputy adds that the launch of the fifth generation of mobile networks in Ukraine was planned for 2022, but due to the full-scale invasion, the plans were postponed.
Regarding the regions chosen for testing, Prybytko says that Kharkiv was the president's idea, and Brodyanka is a symbol of Ukraine's reconstruction after significant post-war destruction.
"Kharkiv is the president's idea. Testing in Kharkiv proves that, despite constant shelling, the city is developing. Borodyanka is a symbol of Ukraine's reconstruction after significant post-war destruction. Technologies for the "Smart City" and construction are being used there, and there is a lack of new mobile technology," Prybytko said.
