The first-generation Volkswagen T-Roc crossover has become very important for the German company: over the entire time of production of the first-generation cars, more than 2 million copies were sold. Even in 2024, at the time of the end of its career, the Volkswagen T-Roc car sold 292 thousand units – only the Volkswagen Tiguan is ahead. And now we meet the second-generation Volkswagen T-Roc crossover! What did it come with?
Evolutionary-revolutionary design
Probably, sales figures immediately indicate that with the format of the Volkswagen T-Roc, the developers frankly guessed: it looks like a slightly raised Volkswagen Golf, without the unnecessary heaviness of SUV –crossovers, quite dynamic and youthful. But once having found a successful format, the designers of Volkswagen decided to leave it. The general shape of the body, the characteristic line-slope of the roof, the wide rear pillar, the bulges above the wheel arches – all this in the "second" Volkswagen T-Roc frankly resembles the "first".
But the details are completely different. For example, the new headlights (fully LED or even matrix IQ . LIGHT LED) are now somewhat flattened and have a strip with backlighting. The radiator grille has dropped down, new side mirrors are now installed on the doors, and the taillights have curved bracket elements. Interestingly, the new Volkswagen T-Roc has not only changed in design, but also significantly increased in size. For example, the length has increased by +12 cm and now reaches 4.37 meters; the wheelbase has increased to 2.63 meters.
Traditionally targeting young buyers, the new Volkswagen T-Roc is offered in six bright body color options, plus you can add a black roof, as well as choose from several wheel rim options – now a maximum of 20-inch ones are available. Finally, simultaneously with the standard version of the Volkswagen T-Roc design (the red car in the photos above), the Volkswagen T-Roc R-Line (yellow car) was also introduced, which is distinguished by original bumpers, its own wheel rims, and black-gloss decor.
More technology: various hybrids, all-wheel drive, driver assistance systems
The Volkswagen T-Roc crossover is built on the MQB Evo platform – it is like an updated version of the basis of its predecessor. Currently, the car is announced for the European market in versions with 1.5 eTSI mHEV gasoline engines with a capacity of 116 or 150 hp, working in tandem with a 7-speed DSG transmission and front-wheel drive. In the future, the Volkswagen T-Roc is promised to have a 2-liter engine, a version with all-wheel drive, as well as the most powerful R -variant.
And also – the promised appearance of a full-fledged HEV hybrid. At the moment, there is little accurate information, since the debut of the hybrid version may take place as early as 2026. But from what is known as of now: a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine plus a hybrid module, total power of 136 or 170 hp (two versions are planned), a Li-Ion battery installed under the rear seat, the fuel tank is moved slightly back and placed between the wheels.
In addition to interesting additions to the range of powertrains, the new Volkswagen T-Roc will also offer more new driver assistance systems: for example, a new version of the Travel Assist system will be available, which supports automatic lane change. The Park Assist Pro system with a memory function for fully automatic parking at a distance of up to 50 meters and the ability to control it from a smartphone is also promised.
Radical changes in the cabin, always unchanged practicality
Finally, a few words about the interior, which has changed quite noticeably! Firstly, the front panel now looks like a separate horizontal element, from which the center console departs from below - also a separate element. The center console has a round switch (like the new Volkswagen Tiguan), but there is no gear selector – after all, the latter is located under the steering wheel. Secondly, the instrument panel is now made in the form of a separate 10-inch display, and without a visor. Thirdly: a 10.4- or 12.9-inch touch screen is responsible for controlling the multimedia system and climate control. Finally, fifthly: there is a backlight that shines through the door panels - it looks interesting!
In pursuit of WOW details, Volkswagen developers have not forgotten about traditional German practicality. The increase in length and wheelbase promises an increase in space for passengers in the cabin. For the first time, the Style configuration will offer ergoActive seats with 14-way electric adjustment and back massage function. And there is also a trunk with a volume of 475 liters; that is, 30 liters more compared to its predecessor.
When to expect in Ukraine and in which versions
Finally, I would like to note that the new Volkswagen T-Roc is already available to order in Europe. The first cars will be available for purchase in late autumn. The price on the German market is from 30,845 euros.
As for the Ukrainian market, the new Volkswagen T-Roc is scheduled to debut in the spring of 2026. The basis for us will be the version with the proven and well-known 1.4-liter 150-horsepower gasoline engine, which will be offered in conjunction with a classic hydromechanical 8-speed "automatic". The exact list of versions, trim levels, equipment – and, accordingly, the exact prices for various variants of the new Volkswagen T-Roc in Ukraine will be announced closer to the start of car sales.
