Trump demands Apple make iPhones in the US and threatens tariffs
Donald Trump is once again demanding that Apple make iPhones in America. This time, the US president has said that the company's smartphones not made in the US will be subject to at least a 25% tariff.
Trump made a new statement on his social network Truth Socila. He notes that iPhones sold in the United States must be manufactured only in the United States and nowhere else.
"I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else," Trump's post said.
This is not the first time the US president has spoken out about iPhone production in other countries. Trump previously urged Apple's CEO not to expand smartphone production in India, despite the company's plans.
Apple has also been making significant strides in expanding in India in recent years. Earlier, it was reported that the Cupertino company plans to move all iPhone production for the US market to India by the end of 2026.
Currently, most iPhones are still assembled in China, and the US market is one of Apple's most important, accounting for 26% of total smartphone shipments. At the same time, Apple has not yet had plans to start manufacturing smartphones in the United States.
