The third generation Nissan Leaf is presented: now it is a crossover, but, as before, an electric car

There has been a lull recently, and now many interesting new products are debuting almost simultaneously. And of course, the new Nissan Leaf electric car is one of the most important new products! After all, with the change of generations, the new Nissan Leaf received a new body format, a more modern interior and more powerful electric motors, as well as increased batteries: now it is ready to cover up to 604 km on a single charge! What else is interesting?

New body profile, but shorter length

If the first and second Nissan Leaf were made in the body format of a “traditional C-class hatchback”, then the new third-generation Nissan Leaf added to this the SUV label and a fashionable spherical silhouette. And also added boomerang headlights and lights reminiscent of a sports car. There were also “hidden” rear door handles, as well as a translucent panoramic roof glass – with an inscription-name of the model and the ability to adjust the transparency by supplying electric current. And also… And also… Now the current third Nissan Leaf can be contemplated for a long time and find interesting details: the latest electric car somewhat resembles the Nissan Ariya and at the same time looks original and original.

By the way, if we have already mentioned the Nissan Ariya , I would like to note that the new Nissan Leaf is much smaller. Moreover, it is even smaller than its predecessors in some dimensions. So, the length of the new Nissan Leaf is 4.35 meters, and its wheelbase is 2.69 meters - and according to these indicators, the new third-generation Nissan Leaf is inferior to the second-generation electric car. But thanks to the crossover format, the new Nissan Leaf surpasses its predecessor in height - we have 1.55 meters. And to finish with the dimensions: the width of the new Nissan Leaf is 1.81 meters.

Although Nissan uses the term “crossover”, in reality, there is no all-wheel drive version in the new Leaf range; at least for now. The base model offers a single electric motor (130 kW or 177 hp and 345 Nm) to drive the front wheels, as well as a battery with a capacity of 52 kW h, which should be enough for a range of up to 436 km according to the WLTP measuring cycle in combined mode. The maximum version also offers a single electric motor, but with increased power - already 160 kW or 218 hp and 355 Nm of torque. The battery has also been increased: we have a capacity of 75 kW h and this should be enough for a range of up to 604 km according to the WLTP rules in combined mode. The maximum version accelerates to “hundreds” in 7.6 seconds, the base loses a second; the top speed is the same for both versions of the new electric car - 160 km/h.

Depending on the specific version, the new Nissan Leaf can offer a charger for alternating current (AC) with a capacity of 7.4 kW or 11 kW, as well as support for fast charging with direct current (DC) with a capacity of up to 150 kW - in the latter case, in 30 minutes you can add electricity for 417 km of range. Other features of the new Leaf include the CMF - EV platform, independent suspension of all wheels, good aerodynamics (the drag coefficient is 0.25), large 18-19-inch wheels, support for V 2 G technology, as well as a battery thermal management system.

Digital interior, compact center console

The interior of the new Leaf is designed exactly as you would expect from a modern electric vehicle or car – that is, the emphasis is on two large displays connected together. But what else is interesting to see inside?

For example, pay attention to the very compact center console: ventilation deflectors and music controls between them, a row of touch buttons above and several switches below. That's all - then a visual break and free space. Up to a separate "island" between the front seats, where a pair of cup holders are placed and a niche with wireless charging is provided. Thus, the front of the new Leaf's interior turned out to be quite "airy" and easy to perceive, although everything you need is present. As in the back - there is a second-row sofa and a trunk with a volume of 437 liters.

It only remains to add that today the Nissan Leaf is one of the most mass and popular electric cars in the world: since 2010, a total of about 700 thousand copies of the first and second generations have been sold - all thanks not so much to super technologies, but to accessibility, the optimal combination of key qualities, the popularity of the brand and a wide dealer network.

Let's hope the third Nissan Leaf joins this market success. Whether this will actually happen will be known soon: orders for the new Nissan Leaf will open in the fall of this year, and sales and deliveries to customers will begin in the spring of 2026.
