Triple electric debut from Kia: Kia EV4 sedan and hatchback, Kia EV2 concept car, Kia PV5 van

Kia has introduced several electric models at once, which will allow it to strengthen its market position and demonstrate the company's interest in electric vehicles. These are all different models, all of them are in different statuses now - but all of them, of course, have their own interesting features. For example…

Kia EV4 variety: different versions, body types, batteries

The first information about the Kia EV 4 has already been met, but now literally everything has become known: technical specifications, interior features, technical part.

So, first and foremost – the Kia EV 4 electric car will be offered in two bodies: sedan and hatchback. The length of the first is 4.73 meters, the length of the second is 4.43 meters. But the wheelbase of 2.82 meters and the width at 1.86 meters are completely identical. The height is also approximately the same: we have 1.48-1.485 meters depending on the body type. In addition to two different bodies, it is also known about two main versions – standard or GT - Line with sporty styling.

In addition to choosing the body type and version, you can also choose a battery for the Kia EV 4 electric car: the basic one has a capacity of 58.3 kW ⋅ h, the increased one offers 81.4 kW ⋅ h – and this should be enough for a range of up to 630 km according to the rules of the WLTP measurement cycle. But this pleasant figure of 630 km of range is valid only for the sedan, because the hatchback will be able to travel only 590 km: this is such a noticeable difference due to the influence of aerodynamics. As for the basic battery, a range of 430 or 410 km is promised – and again the sedan wins. And the sedan also wins in terms of trunk capacity: the declared volume is 490 liters versus 430 liters for the hatchback.

In all this variety of choice, it suddenly turns out that only one electric motor option is offered for the Kia EV 4 – a peak power of 150 kW or 204 hp, front-wheel drive. Depending on the body type and battery capacity (which directly affects the weight of the electric car), acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 7.4-7.7 seconds. But the maximum speed is the same for absolutely all versions of the Kia EV 4 – it is 170 km/h.

Finally, a few words about the interior of the Kia EV 4 electric car, which is presented in two versions: standard or GT - Line . Accordingly, the steering wheel, seat trim materials, and color scheme change. However, the horizontal front panel, stretched ventilation deflectors, and a combination of three displays remain unchanged - a pair of 12.3-inch ones and a 5.3-inch one between them. All this allows Kia to talk about a total 30-inch digital cluster of the interior. And if that's not enough, then a 12-inch Head - Up - Display is added.

Among other interesting features of the electric car, it is worth noting support for V 2 G or V 2 L technologies, the i - Pedal 3.0 control function (one-pedal control), the HDA 2 system for semi-automatic driving on the highway and a generally quite wide list of driver assistance systems. It is also worth noting that the Kia EV 4 is equipped with a built-in 11 kW charger and provides for the possibility of fast battery charging: within 10-80% in 31 minutes.

Kia EV 2 concept car and Kia PV2 electric van

At the same time as the rather large Kia EV 4 electric cars, the Kia EV 2 concept was also presented - it is a harbinger of a very compact, but still electric crossover of the B- segment - SUV. Technical details are currently scarce, there is no information about the platform, battery, engine, etc. However, you can already look at the design (it seems that it is very close to the embodiment in the production model) and be surprised by the interior.

After all, the Kia EV 2 concept offers a continuous seat in front (the backrests are separate), and this front row can move. Thus, inside the small Kia EV 2 electric car, it is possible to create a fairly large and beautiful open space for relaxation. The idea is interesting, but will it become a reality in the production Kia EV 2 electric car?

By the way, regarding serial electric vehicles. The third debutant from Kia was the already completely serial van Kia PV 5. It would be even more correct to talk about a family of vans. After all, in addition to the passenger van PV 5 Passenger and the commercial van Kia PV 5 Cargo, the Kia PV 5 Crew (cargo-passenger version) and the Kia PV 5 WAV version are also announced - this is an abbreviation for Wheelchair Access Vehicle (a car for transporting people using wheelchairs).

It will be interesting to see how the Kia EV 2 and Kia PV 5 develop in the future. But for now, the Kia EV 4 looks the most interesting and realistic to us.

Thus, the production of the Kia EV 4 sedan will be organized at the local Korean Kia plant , the start of production of the electric car is scheduled for March. The main sales market should be South Korea and the nearest countries. The production of the Kia EV 4 hatchback will take place at the Kia plant in Slovakia, and the main sales market should be Europe. Accordingly, it is worth expecting the appearance of the Kia EV 4 also in Ukraine.
