Double debut: details about the new Citroen C5 Aircross and a little about the new Jeep Compass
Recently, detailed information about the second-generation Citroen C5 Aircross crossover appeared - and this was a planned publication of the release: a lot of information, nice branded photos. But then the first images of the new Jeep Compass appeared - and this was an unexpected turn of events, literally a few photos. So, a first look: what will the new cars offer?
New Citroen C5 Aircross: more angles and straight lines, larger dimensions
First and foremost, the second-generation Citroen C5 Aircross crossover radically abandons the soft forms of the previous Citroen C5 Aircross, choosing instead angles and straight lines: a complex front bumper, a broken window sill line, massive plastic trim at the bottom, clearly defined stamping on the front doors. The headlights are made very narrow, they have received notable centrally located LED elements; but most importantly, the headlights can be matrix! The lights are also unusual: in fact, we have horizontal “wings” for two functions at once: this is an element of lighting and at the same time an element of aerodynamics. Add a roof slope at the back, special aerodynamic wheels and other tricks - and we get improved aerodynamics even despite a significant increase in the size of the car.
Thus, the length of the new Citroen C5 Aircross is 4.65 meters (+15 cm compared to its predecessor), the width is 1.9 meters (+3 cm), the height is declared at 1.66 meters (-3 cm). The wheelbase of the second-generation Citroen C5 Aircross has increased to 2.78 meters (+5 cm), which should provide additional space for passengers in the second row of seats.
And in general: what has not changed in the new Citroen C5 Aircross compared to its predecessor is its focus on family values ! The Sofa Design front panel promises a pleasant fabric trim and a vertical 13-inch Waterfall display that smoothly drops down. Plus another version of the Advanced Comfort seats in front and a sofa with adjustable backrest angle in the back (within 21-33 degrees). Thanks to the increase in the size of the car, it was also possible to get a fairly large trunk - 651 liters with the standard position of the rear seats.
Currently, the powertrains that will be offered in Europe for the new generation Citroen C5 Aircross have been announced – two hybrid options and two fully electric ones.
The basic version will be the regular hybrid 1.2 Hybrid 145: a combination of a gasoline 3-cylinder turbo engine and an electric motor, plus a 6-speed "robot" and front-wheel drive. A level above is the PHEV hybrid 1.6 Hybrid 195: a gasoline 4-cylinder turbo engine plus an electric motor, a 21 kWh rechargeable battery promises a range of up to 100 km on electric power, total power reaches 195 hp, front-wheel drive.
Now a few words about the electric versions of the new product. The starting version is a version with a 73 kWh battery and a 157 kW electric motor (this is almost 214 hp, although the version designation indicates 210). The maximum version will offer a 97 kWh battery and a 170 kW electric motor (this is 231 hp, although the version designation indicates 230); in the latter case, a range of up to 680 km is promised. However, in two cases, we are talking exclusively about one electric motor and front-wheel drive.
New Jeep Compass: only photos, no description… but everything is clear anyway
The appearance of quite good images of the new generation Jeep Compass crossover was somewhat unexpected . We see a corporate design with a hint of the models of a class above, a flat 7-window radiator grille, rectangular headlights, protrusions above the wheel arches. And also pay attention to the front bumper: it may differ, which indicates the possible preparation of a special version with improved off-road capabilities. In the cabin - a front panel with a horizontal display orientation and a separate center console with a round selector-switch.
For now, that’s all we can see in the photos. But is it hard to guess anything else? It’s very likely that the new Jeep Compass will be built on the STLA Medium platform , which means it will share commonality with the new Citroen C5 Aircross, as well as the new generations of the Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland. And this, accordingly, potentially means a base version with a 1.2-liter hybrid, a powerful PHEV hybrid, and the availability of electric versions – all as the European market demands.
At the same time, the new Jeep Compass will have to live up to its brand status. So, it will definitely have to offer all-wheel drive versions. One possible option is a version with two electric motors with a total power of about 300 hp; another option could be a 1.2-liter hybrid with a capacity of 136-145 hp with an additional electric motor for rear-wheel drive, as is already implemented on the Jeep Avenger 4 xe; but whether there will be any intermediate option between them is a big question. Hopefully, we will get the answer soon, when the full debut will take place and all the information about the new Jeep Compass will be made public .
Finally, I would like to note that even the Citroen C5 Aircross is scheduled for market launch in Europe only in the second half of 2025; the new Jeep Compass will enter the European market, at best, more or less the same way. Accordingly, after that, the new products for Ukraine will have to wait - perhaps until the end of this year or even the beginning of next.
