The CUPRA brand appeared only in 2018, but today it is developing very actively, increasing sales, and finding new fans. And not only in Europe, but also in Ukraine: we have a large official dealer and many service partners, there is already a community of fans of CUPRA cars, and of course, new models are being released! And the most important of them for 2025 can be confidently called the new CUPRA Terramar crossover.
Spanish temperament + German practicality = CUPRA Terramar
Oh, these advertising clichés, right?! But in the case of the new CUPRA Terramar crossover, it's all true: it's a car that combines Spanish temperament and German practicality. It's as if they took the well-known MQB Evo platform and created a new generation of cars: the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover focused on technology and comfort, the Skoda Kodiaq crossover focused on size; but what does the CUPRA Terramar offer then? Emotionality!
The new CUPRA Terramar crossover is the smallest among the aforementioned technological relatives: 4.52 meters long, 1.86 meters wide, 1.58 meters high, and a wheelbase of 2.68 meters. However, every centimeter and even a millimeter of its body is full of design: the front part in the new Shark Nose style , pointed headlights with triangles and Matrix LED Ultra matrix light technology , a large and low-lying radiator grille, attractive curves on the doors and circularly outlined wheel arches, a trunk lid with a red line-light and the CUPRA logo. The new CUPRA Terramar looks very emotional and, let's say, it looks "expensive". I would not be surprised if this body - with its overall proportions, the shapes of the doors and windows, the curves of the side surfaces - will become the basis for the new generation Audi Q 3 . Especially since the CUPRA Terramar crossover is manufactured at the Audi plant in Győr.
What else is the emotionality of the new CUPRA Terramar? For example, in the offer of power units. Currently, the car will be offered in two powerful versions for Ukraine. The CUPRA Terramar starts with a 204 hp 2-liter 4-cylinder TSI turbocharged engine , a robotic 7-speed DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive - such a car costs from about 40 thousand euros. Another option is the CUPRA Terramar VZ (from the word Veloz , which means "speed" in Spanish): also a 2-liter TSI turbocharged engine , but already with 265 hp. power, plus an unchanged 7-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive. The result? Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a price tag from 43.35 thousand euros.
Of course, other versions of the CUPRA Terramar are expected later. For example, a 150-horsepower gasoline version with front-wheel drive has already been promised for Ukraine. Also in Europe, the CUPRA Terramar crossover has PHEV - hybrid versions in its range, which can cover a distance of up to 100 km exclusively on electricity. However, even despite such steps towards practicality, the CUPRA Terramar car is trying to maintain its sporty and emotional character. Here is another example, in addition to powerful engines: the standard equipment of the CUPRA Terramar already includes a sports suspension with reduced ground clearance (-10 mm) and a progressive steering system - all that is optional for most VAG cars.
And a few words about the CUPRA Terramar interior, which also tries to combine style and practicality.
Style is about the complex curves of the front panel and center console, about ventilation deflectors with copper decor and a thin colored LED strip, about the steering wheel with engine start and driving mode change buttons, about the backlighting on the door panels, about new seats with integrated headrest. And practicality is about the rear sofa that can move, sufficient headroom for passengers, and a fairly voluminous (642 liters) trunk for things. Thus, the CUPRA Terramar crossover may well be not only emotional, but also family.
Updates for CUPRA Leon and CUPRA Formentor: more originality and power
This headline also has an interesting nuance – it needs to be read separately for each car. Yes, the most important change of the updated CUPRA Leon was the acquisition of a more original appearance. After all, from the very beginning of its existence, the “hot hatchback” CUPRA Leon was very similar to the regular Leon : the same body, the only difference being the logos and a few details. But now – it is clearly different, thanks to the new branded Shark Nose , headlights with triangular elements, bumper with side whiskers-growths. In addition, a solid line has been placed at the back, connecting the CUPRA logo and lights; plus new wheel rims and body colors have been added.
In the cabin, perhaps the most important change is the steering wheel with buttons for switching driving modes; but a new multimedia system with a 12.9-inch display (1920x1080 pixels), Sennheiser Mobility audio with 12 speakers, etc. has also been added. But the equipment remains unchanged: a 2-liter 300-horsepower gasoline turbo engine, a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox , front-wheel drive.
The CUPRA Formentor crossover hatchback was originally launched on the market as a representative of the CUPRA brand and did not have such an identity crisis. Therefore, the visual updates of the model were carried out only to comply with the new CUPRA corporate style: a changed “nose” and headlights, a solid taillight, minor interior updates. However, in the case of the CUPRA Formentor, it is very interesting how the technology has changed: from now on, the 2-liter gasoline turbo engine produces 333 hp, the all-wheel drive system is implemented with two friction clutches (separately for each rear wheel), Akebono brakes are offered , etc. It turns out that the updated CUPRA Formentor car actually occupied an intermediate position between its predecessor and the once flagship version of the VZ 5, although without a 5-cylinder engine.
In conclusion, I would like to note that this was only the first meeting with the CUPRA brand this year; but not the last. The first detailed review and test drive of the CUPRA car is already being prepared – and everything turned out to be difficult, but very emotional and interesting. In principle, just like the CUPRA brand itself in general!
