Just now, the IAA automobile exhibition is taking place in Germany, to which the premieres of the new generation of the BMW iX3 and the electric Mercedes-Benz GLC have already been “tied”. But perhaps the most novelties are from Volkswagen specifically and the VAG group in general: the Volkswagen ID.Cross concept car, the almost serial Volkswagen ID.Polo model, the Skoda Vision O concept station wagon, the CUPRA Rebel hatchback and much more. So: what awaits us in the future?
Volkswagen ID.Cross
The first and perhaps most important debutant is the Volkswagen ID. Cross concept car, which hints at a compact electric crossover. Despite its concept status, the exterior of the Volkswagen ID. Cross looks quite realistic, and the general features of the interior have already been understood. If there are any differences from the production model, then only in the details.
The new electric crossover Volkswagen ID. Cross has a length of 4.16 meters, but a surprisingly large wheelbase of about 2.6 meters. It will be built on a special MEB + platform with a front electric motor and, accordingly, front-wheel drive. The promised range is up to 420 km (WLTP), the main 450-liter trunk and an additional 25-liter trunk in front, a digital 11-inch instrument panel and a central 13-inch touch display, and also - a lot of physical buttons!
The production version of the Volkswagen ID. Cross is scheduled to debut in the summer of 2026. But before that time, we will already see another production electric car from Volkswagen.
Volkswagen ID. Polo
In fact, one of the pioneers of new compact electric cars on the MEB + platform should be the Volkswagen ID. Polo. In addition, this novelty also marks the abandonment of the previous ID-line designations (ID.3, ID.4, ID.6, etc.) and the transition to the familiar designations with model names. That's how we got an electric car called the Volkswagen ID. Polo, the serial version is almost ready and was presented in camouflage.
The electric hatchback Volkswagen ID. Polo will be more compact than the crossover – only 4.05 meters – but it will still retain a 2.6-meter wheelbase. In addition, it is known that four versions of the model are being prepared, where the top of the range will be the Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI with an electric motor with a capacity of 166 kW or 226 hp.
It is certain that such a Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI will not be cheap; however, the basic version of the new Volkswagen ID. Polo should start at a price of about 25 thousand euros. Production of the new product will be organized at the SEAT plant in Spain, sales should begin in the spring -summer of 2026.
Skoda Superb
Skoda also wants to get its “piece of the pie” in the compact electric car segment – and to do this, it is launching its own electric car, the Skoda Epiq.
Still the MEV+ platform and compact dimensions (length 4.1 meters), still the 5-door body and 5-seater interior, still the starting price tag of about 25 thousand euros. The maximum versions of the Skoda Epiq should offer an electric motor with a capacity of about 210 hp and a range of up to 425 km. The fully ready serial version and the start of sales are expected in mid-2026.
Skoda Vision O
In addition to the small electric car, which is almost ready to start its market career, Skoda has presented its own vision of the distant future – in the form of the Skoda Vision O concept. And it seems that this is nothing more than a look at the fully electric version of the Skoda Octavia of the early 2030s.
The Skoda Vision O concept is quite large – 4.85 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, and 1.5 meters high – and showcases the new Tech-loop front design. Although the side continuous glazing and the almost vertical trunk lid also look quite original. And we haven’t even looked inside yet!
Inside, we are greeted by a 1.2-meter-long horizontal display and an additional vertical touch display, which together form the entire front panel. But don't worry - Skoda is in no hurry to "hit the continuous displays", remaining true to the ideas of practicality and convenience: pay attention to physical switches or a convenient compartment for the charging cable.
CUPRA Rebel
Another debutant was the almost ready-to-run electric hatchback CUPRA Rebel. And it is a serial embodiment of the CUPRA UrbanRebel concept from several years ago.
The CUPRA Rebel electric car was presented in camouflage, but its general design features are already clear. As well as some technical specifications: length 4.05 meters and wheelbase 2.6 meters, MEV+ platform and front-wheel drive. The most powerful version will receive an electric motor of 166 kW or 226 hp, VAQ differential, sports seats, etc.
Production and sales of the CUPRA Rebel electric car will start at the very beginning of 2026 – together with the Volkswagen ID. Polo, they will become the pioneers of the family.
CUPRA Tindaya
If the story of the CUPRA Rebel is “almost a production model”, then the story of the CUPRA Tindaya concept is a look into the distant future. What will it be like for CUPRA?
It seems to be a new incarnation of the company's "shark design" and pointed triangular headlights, with considerable ground clearance like an SUV crossover, but with an aerodynamic fastback body. And add 4.7-meter length and 23-inch wheels. I would not be surprised if the CUPRA Tindaya concept hints at the successor to the CUPRA Formentor , which will occupy a market position half a class higher.
We will learn more details later in the future. However, it is already clear that in this future there will be many electric cars from Volkswagen specifically and the VAG group in general.
