There are a lot of games coming out in September 2025, although not all of them are big releases. And while some developers are pushing back the deadlines due to fears of competition with Hollow Knight: Silksong, there are plenty of brave indie creators who aren't afraid to challenge the long-awaited hit.
September has prepared a real kaleidoscope: there are action games, strategies, adventures, role-playing games, horrors and racing. From the new Silent Hill f with the atmosphere of 1960s Japan to the return of Borderlands 4. From cozy city-building simulators to brutal survival horrors.
Bad Cheese
Release date: September 1, 2025
Genre: adventure, puzzle, horror
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One / Series X|S, Nintendo Switch
The aesthetics of old cartoons inspire game developers. Once upon a time, there was a bright and hardcore platformer Cuphead, where everything was drawn as if we had fallen into a Hollywood cartoon from the 1930s. Now, with the beginning of the school year, a little mouse is preparing to greet us. He was unlucky enough to be born into a dysfunctional family. His father, apparently, is a good drunkard, so the little mouse has to fend for himself while his mother is at work. That is, clean, slip his dad pills, catch spiders, etc. It's also a social horror, apparently. And for even more darkness, the game is stylized as an even earlier animation than Cuphead – the 1920s.
Metal Eden
Release date: September 2, 2025
Genre: first-person shooter
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
In this sci-fi first-person shooter, the player takes on the role of a combat android who acts as a potential savior of humanity. His goal is to infiltrate the metropolis of MOEBIUS and awaken the citizens trapped in capsules.
The main thing in the game is the insane speed with which everything happens. Here you can break through, break through protective barriers and maneuver between enemies using rapid parkour, grappling hooks and gravitational maneuvers. In battle, you can run along walls, fight in the air and also transform into an Armored Ramball (or how to translate it correctly ARMORED RAMBALL).
Otherskin

This fashionable outfit not only increases the chances of survival, but also allows you to absorb the "morphs" of alien creatures, gaining new abilities for combat and movement.
Kejora
Release date: September 4, 2025
Genre: adventure, platformer, puzzle
Platforms: Windows
A cute little Indonesian fairy tale, drawn by hand. Kejora is the name of the main character, a girl who lives in a remote village, where some dangerous secret is lurking. So Kejora and her two friends decided to figure out this mystery. Each of them has unique abilities for solving puzzles, setting traps and moving past enemies unnoticed. The project looks very nice, but it all depends on whether the developers have invested as much soul into the plot and gameplay as they have into the wonderful frame-by-frame animation.
Hell is Us
Release date: September 4, 2025
Genre: action/adventure
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
A dark action-adventure game from Rogue Factor studio under the creative supervision of former Deus Ex series art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletet.
The events unfold in the fictional country of Heidi, torn by civil war in an alternative 1993. The main character Remy returns to his homeland to regain his lost memories and find out the truth about his past.
The gameplay combines dynamic third-person action with exploration of sprawling locations without a map or compass. The story unfolds through puzzles, dialogues, and encounters with otherworldly creatures. The player independently collects each piece of lore, gradually uncovering the terrible truth.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Release date: September 4, 2025
Genre: platformer, metroidvania
Platforms: Windows, Mac, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One / Series X|S, Nintendo Switch / Switch 2
The shadow of this release turned out to be so long that it forced several studios to hastily postpone their games to other dates - who would want to compete with the "GTA of the indie world"?
After the phenomenal success of the original Hollow Knight, which captivated millions of players with its melancholic beauty and flawless gameplay, fans have been waiting for years for a sequel to Hornet's adventure. And now, the brave defender of Hollownest finds herself thrust into a mysterious new kingdom against her will.
After escaping from captivity, Hornet embarks on a perilous journey to the top of the kingdom. Over 150 types of enemies, spectacular bosses and colorful characters await her. The gameplay retains the familiar magic: elegant dodges, deadly needle strikes and Hornet's natural agility.
Cronos: The New Dawn
Release date: September 5, 2025
Genre: action/adventure, horror
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
Bloober Team, following the success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, returns with an original action-horror. Cronos: The New Dawn throws us into an alternate 1980s where an unknown disease has wiped out most of humanity. The player takes on the role of the Traveler, an agent of the mysterious Collective, tasked with saving what's left of the world.
The game's feature is a journey into the past through anomalies that lead to Krakow on the eve of the catastrophe. There, you need to find key people and use a special device to extract their essences. The choice of who to save and who to leave affects both the plot and the gameplay itself: the essences open up new possibilities and hidden parts of the story.
Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion
Release date: September 5, 2025
Genre: action
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
The sequel to Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion takes the action to an open world with a full-fledged co-op campaign. Now you can travel on horseback (which does not consume energy, unlike mechs) and even fight in the saddle. The developers have added asynchronous multiplayer with the ability to peek at other players' bases.
The combat system has been deepened, with hybrid organo-mechanical enemies with different weaknesses, the skill system has been reworked into "genetic patterns," and mech customization has been expanded. Visually, the game combines the realistic Gekiga style for the characters with photorealism for the mechs.
Kenichiro Tsukuda said that with this game he wants to make mecha-action accessible even to beginners thanks to RPG elements and friendly co-op.
Borderlands 4
Release date: September 12, 2025
Genre: action/RPG
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
Finally, this crazy universe is back with a full-fledged numbers game! Borderlands 4 takes us to the planet Kairos, where the Timekeeper's rule has just been overthrown, and rebels and Vault Hunters have rushed to search for valuable loot.
Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford admits that for the first time in the series, the hardware fully meets the developers' ambitions, so now the world has become truly open and seamless.
New features have allowed for the addition of a double jump, a mechanic that completely defies the laws of physics but is incredibly fun in a video game. Movement has also been improved: now you don't have to look for a station to summon transport - you can summon your personal vehicle instantly and race around the world without restrictions.
Assassin's Creed: Shadows – Claws of Awaji (DLC)
Release date: September 16, 2025
Genre: action/RPG
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
A new island, new enemies and familiar blades. The Claws of Awaji DLC offers over 10 hours of new content on a separate island, where players will have to solve mysteries and search for lost treasure. But it will not be a quiet walk: a new enemy force is constantly following the hero's footsteps, so you will not be able to relax. The addition will add fresh elements in the form of new weapons, skills and equipment. The island promises to be full of traps and ambushes, which will force players to constantly be on the alert.
A nice bonus from Ubisoft for those who trusted the game before its release: Claws of Awaji will be free for them. Recall that we once highly praised the original Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Town to City
Release date: September 16, 2025
Genre: Urban Strategy
Platforms: Windows
Very soon we will be able to try another cozy city-building simulator – Town to City, from the authors of the game Station to Station. Players are offered to build and decorate a 19th-century Mediterranean settlement. The more attractive the city, the more willingly new residents move there. You can build several cities at the same time. The developers emphasize freedom of will: if you want – embody something grand, if you don’t want – you can do flowers.
The main feature is a map without cells, which allows you to create a variety of cities in different shapes: from carefully planned districts to chaotic buildings with winding streets. You can decorate your nest and then take pictures in a special mode.

Release date: September 19, 2025

Kyle Crane, after the Baron's terrible experiments, breaks free and finds himself in the picturesque, but deadly Castor Woods. His DNA is half infected, and the beast inside will have to be tamed for revenge. The familiar day-night cycle makes the darkness even more insidious, parkour has not disappeared anywhere, and now an SUV with a first- or third-person view has appeared. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op with up to four players, because the forest is overrun with the infected. Techland promises about 20 hours of pure gameplay without microtransactions.
Endless Legend 2
Release date: September 22, 2025 (Early Access)
Genre: turn-based strategy
Platforms: Windows
Endless Legend 2 takes players to a constantly changing fantasy world on the brink of destruction. Events unfold on a planetary scale, where each faction fights for survival. The developers promise a combination of classic 4X strategy with interesting mechanics. The player will have to build cities, spread their influence, develop the economy and participate in battles in both manual and automatic modes.
The world is constantly changing, presenting players with new challenges and opportunities. You will have to adapt to changing conditions, seek allies among minor factions, and make difficult decisions that will determine the fate of civilization. As always in AMPLITUDE Studios games, the gameplay for different factions differs significantly even at the level of basic mechanics.
Baby Steps
Release date: September 23, 2025
Genre: Walking simulator
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5
This game seems to be a true proto-walking simulator! A funny clumsiness simulator where each limb of the main character lives its own life. Players will have to control the arms and legs of the unfortunate Nate, who is trying to overcome the picturesque mountainous terrain, but constantly stumbles, falls and rolls down.
Realistic physics and an unusual control scheme make every step a real challenge. While Nate comments on his adventures and one of the 420 tracks of the soundtrack plays from the speakers, players must bring the poor guy to the finish line. The perfect game for those who like to laugh at their own clumsiness and appreciate absurd humor.
Silent Hill
Release date: September 25, 2025
Genre: psychological horror
Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Silent Hill f takes the legendary series from the American outback to the Japanese hinterland of the 1960s.
The main character, Hinako Shimizu, is trapped in a fog in her native village of Ebisugaoka, where she must solve mysteries and fight for survival among terrifying monsters. The script was written by the iconic Ryukishi07, and the music was composed by the irreplaceable Akira Yamaoka.
The developers emphasize: this is not soulslike! Despite the presence of endurance and evasions, the authors focused on the classic parts of the series. The main thing here is the story of growing up and the atmosphere of everyday horrors of the Japanese outback.
Interesting details: weapons wear out and break, save points are Shinto shrines with amulets, and the parallel world resembles traditional Japan. They promise 12-13 hours of gameplay with multiple endings.

The journey will span locations from Nile cruises to the streets of London, Mallorca and Cairo. Each detective has their own unique perspective on the case, adding depth to the investigation. Mechanics include an expanded mind map for gathering evidence and building logical chains, an interrogation system to uncover lies, plus the ability to gather information through dialogue and observation of suspects.
