New games coming out in May 2025
0

Whether this month is a good one for games depends on whether you're waiting for the new Doom or F1. Other May releases are less loud, but each game will have its own player. We tried to include both big games and indie projects of various genres, such as Despelote or Best Served Cold. May will have several interesting sequels, including the bright shooter Revenge of the Savage Planet; the tragic narrative role-playing game Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall or the adventure Spirit of the North 2, but the ambitious newcomer - action/RPG Lost Soul Aside is delayed until August.

Despelote

Release date May 1, 2025

Genre adventure, sports

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch

The developers say that indie game Despelote is not just a game about football. It's a warm, slightly nostalgic look at how a leather ball can change your life. You won't have a roster of star players or complex tactical schemes. Instead, it's a first-person, street-level game of Quito, Ecuador, and you, a kid just chasing a ball.

Despelote tells the story over three "days", that is, three stages in the life of the main character. Each time he grows up, his perception of the game changes. At some point, football becomes not just a game, but a memory, a pain, a way to find yourself. The world around you also does not stand still: other characters grow with you, change, and communication with them becomes a little different than it was before.

The game has a unique art style that resembles lively children's drawings, and all the characters are hand-drawn.

Best Served Cold

Release date May 5, 2025

Genre visual novel, adventure

Platforms Windows, macOS

You know what tastes best cold, right? This isn't just a game about cocktails and customers. Best Served Cold is a detective story disguised as an evening shift behind a bar. If you've played Coffee Talks, The Red Strings Club, or VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action, you'll have a rough idea of the gameplay. There, the player took on the role of a barista or bartender, preparing various drinks and listening to customers' stories. So here we have something similar, but Best Served Cold adds another role - an investigator in a city that has lost its zest for life.

You are transported to Bukovytsia - a city somewhere in an alternative version of Europe, where the cobblestones remember better times, and people have learned to live between the search for scarce goods and constant unrest. Alcohol is banned, but the bar "Opivnichnyky" is still afloat.

A motley crowd gathers in the hall: some well-groomed braggarts, some venal types in uniform, some who play on two fronts. And they all have something to hide. The bartender's skill is important here, but even more important is to feel when to push, when to joke, and when to give a silent pause that will say more than words. Every cocktail is a conversation. And every conversation is a clue.

An official translation into Ukrainian is not yet planned.

Drop Duchy

Release date May 5, 2025

Genre puzzle, strategy

Platforms Windows

Drop Duchy is another interesting and unusual project, coming out on PC on May 5. The developers promise a fresh mix of genres: puzzle, real-time strategy, building, tactics, and a bit of roguelite. And all this with procedural map generation, good stylization, a lively soundtrack, and high replayability, apparently.

In the game you have to combine blocks, activate resources, form rows for bonuses, build structures, pump a deck of 110 cards and don't let the enemies destroy your castle. In other words, it's like Tetris in the Middle Ages, in which castle building and strategy appeared. Here we don't just put blocks together, but develop our own duchy, gather an army and fight for regions, like a chess player with construction ambitions.

Each battle is a new map/glass. And all this with three factions, a hundred challenges, and also with nice graphics and pleasant sound. Perfect to get stuck in for an evening, and then for another week. And the game has Ukrainian localization.

The Midnight Walk

Release date May 8, 2025

Genre action/adventure, horror

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5/PS VR2, Steam VR

In "Northern Walk" we will travel through a world literally made of clay. That is, all the locations and characters were molded and then digitized. The main character is called The Burnt One. In Ukrainian, it is probably more correct to call him Vypaleny (or a little more poetically - Obbaleny). He wakes up in a strange place and meets Podboy. This is literally a living Jug-lantern that can illuminate the hero's path. Together, Vypaleny and Potboy set off on a long journey through a mysterious world.

This dark fantasy adventure from the creators of Lost in Random and Fe is a bit reminiscent of Little Nightmare in mood and visuals. So this journey will be full of not only beauty, but also danger - the heroes will face treacherous traps and monsters that seek to absorb the light of little Sweatboy.

We will have to solve puzzles, avoid enemies, and meet rather bizarre characters who fill this world with mystery. The plot includes five stories, each of which explores the theme of fire - its creative and destructive power.

Revenge of the Savage Planet

Release date May 8, 2025

Genre action/adventure

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X

Action/adventure Revenge of the Savage Planet looks like a colorful trip on the border of comedy, science fiction, and grand corporate deception.

You, a useless employee from the past, are stranded on the edge of the galaxy, severely short on equipment but hungry for revenge. In this bizarre world, you'll have to climb mountains, swim, scan, slide on slippery platforms, collect Pokemon-like creatures, explore the planet, and collect all sorts of alien junk in your own trailer - a cozy, intergalactic, almost home.

You can play both alone and in co-op. And even on one screen, like in the good old days. Other features include different types of slime (no joke), a hook, a whip, scythes, lasers, and planets with their own flora, fauna, and secrets.

Plus, anyone who buys the game in the first month will get a free copy of Journey to the Savage Planet and the exclusive Trash Panda Suit. Plus, get a 10% discount if you buy it in the first week.

Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall

Release date May 8, 2025

Genre narrative story, simulator

Platforms Windows, macOS, Xbox One/Series X|S, Nintendo Switch

Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall is a royal life simulator for those who love to sit on the throne and torment their subjects and themselves with ambiguous decisions. The player is the king, and he will have to deal with an endless stream of petitioners, including family members, who come to the castle with their problems, complaints and (not very often!) gifts. Do you want to help everyone? You won't be able to! There are not enough resources and time, but there are too many problems. And war is on the horizon, so you need to choose your allies wisely...

Yes, Your Grace: Snowfall picks up where the previous game, Yes, Your Grace, left off. It's actually a pretty sad and dark story about duty, family, loss, and the weight of decisions.

Spirit of the North 2

Release date May 8, 2025

Genre action/adventure

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Remember the first part – a calm, meditative journey of a fox through the North? In the sequel Spirit of the North 2, we are waiting for more of everything: beauty, battles, magical magic and adventures. At least, this is what the developers promise us. Now the fox is not alone – the faithful Raven is nearby, and the enemies have become even more terrible. Among them is the dark shaman Grimnir, who has captured the guards and is spoiling the land with his filth.

Players can expect 16 hours of gameplay powered by Unreal Engine 5 with picturesque landscapes, hand-drawn regions, a dynamic soundtrack, and rich lore.

Each fox is unique, allowing players to customize their appearance and abilities to their liking. Powerful runes will help develop skills, while puzzles and combat scenes will challenge you to rescue powerful sentinel beasts.

This is a tale of nature, light, and cooperation. About a shadow hanging over the land, and two creatures who dared to dispel it. If you like atmospheric adventures with visual charm and emotional depth, wait for this game.

The Precinct

Release date May 13, 2025

Genre action, simulator

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Averno City, 1983, gangs control the streets. The protagonist of The Precinct is Nick Cordell Jr., a rookie cop fresh out of the academy. His goal is to clean up the city of crime and, surprise surprise in the spirit of 1980s action movies, Shenmue and fifty other games, find out the truth about the death of his police officer father. It's your shift, officer. Time to restore order.

From a genre perspective, The Precinct is a top-down action game, a sort of classic GTA in reverse, where every offense is procedurally generated. From parking under a no-parking sign to robberies, drug dealing, or chases with shootouts. The player has the choice of pursuing criminals by car, helicopter, or on foot, calling for backup, or setting up a barricade and rushing into battle.

The city lives to its own rhythm: with dynamic weather, day and night cycles, and building destruction. And all of this is done in the style of 1980s neon noir. Sounds interesting.

Dino Path Trail

Release date May 9, 2025

Genre action/adventure

Platforms Windows

In Dino Path Trail, the player will go to a wild, primitive version of the Wild West - a world where dinosaurs are still alive and the era of cowboys is still alive. The player packs his camp into a classic wooden wagon, pulled by a giant lizard, and sets off on an adventure through canyons, swamps, snowy ridges and desert caves. Each biome has its own dangers: predators, ambushes, traps and unexpected routes.

There is no permanent home here - the camp moves with the player. It can be built, upgraded, installed with new machines, stored resources and expanded shelters. It is a mobile base that remains the only island of order in the chaos of the wild nature.

The world around you is aggressive and alive. Sometimes you have to shoot enemies from the rocks, sometimes you have to fight off groups of predators or rabid hunters. Everything comes into play: guns, knives, homemade bombs and even your own instincts. The number of enemies increases every day, and the higher the bounty on your head, the greater the danger.

In addition, the player must monitor their own condition: hunger, thirst, temperature, wounds - everything matters. Survival requires careful planning, resource gathering, crafting, and adaptation to circumstances.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

Release date May 15, 2025

Genre first-person shooter

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X

DOOM: The Dark Ages is the biggest May release and a prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. It's a single-player shooter, but with a new approach. The player will be shown how the Doom Slayer became who he is, and why he decided to do what he does to hell.

The developers did not reinvent the wheel – shooting, blood and demons are in place. But this time they emphasized close combat. The shield, which can be thrown, partially replaces the chainsaw and allows you to block attacks or even interrupt enemy spells. In principle, you can go through the entire game without firing a single shot, if you really want to.

The pace has slowed down, but the combat remains intense. Whereas before the player would race through the arenas like a rocket, now it feels more like a battle between an armored tank and an army of demons. Some enemies have to be studied and dealt with using tactics, rather than just spamming grenades.

New levels are more open, with the ability to defend entire areas, encounter demon camps, and complete side quests. And towards the end, the game goes all out – with mechs, car-sized fists, and dragons with cannons on their wings.

Journalists who have already played the demo praise the game, but admit that the mech and dragon elements can seem strange against the background of the main gameplay. However, the atmosphere, combat system and updated approach to the rhythm of the game are well received. It's the same DOOM, just with new instruments - and a slightly different melody.

The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass from launch.

Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune (DLC)

Release date May 15, 2025

Genre action/adventure (DLC)

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

In the DLC A Pirate's Fortune, Star Wars Outlaws heroine Kay Vess embarks on a new adventure in the Khepsi system. She awaits pirates, treasure, smuggling and an acquaintance with the legendary pirate Hondo Onaka, who has an old score with a dangerous gang. In addition, the Miyuki Merchant League will appear, promising upgrades for the "Pathfinder" in exchange for services in transporting dubious cargo.

To begin this pirate story, you will first have to complete the main story. Along with the release of A Pirate's Fortune on May 15, owners of the Ultimate and Deluxe editions will receive the "Knowing of Naboo" and "Desert Nomad" cosmetic sets. The DLC is included in the season pass, but it can also be purchased separately. The addition will be released on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Star Wars Outlaws is also preparing to land on Nintendo Switch 2 - the release is scheduled for September 4, 2025.

Blades of Fire

Release date May 22, 2025

Genre action/adventure

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

In the fantasy world of Blades of Fire, the new ruler, Queen Nereus, has cast a spell that turns any weapon into stone. So steel no longer cuts, and Nereus' treacherous army has access to a divine metal capable of cutting through everything in its path. But all is not lost. There is someone who is able to hold a real weapon in their hands. The main character is Aran de Lyra, the last bearer of steel, a man who can still forge blades and break through dense ranks of guards, monsters and the undead. Next to the hero is Adso, a kind of Jura, versed in myths and forgotten languages. Together you move against the very system that cemented the world.

At the heart of the game is the forging system, which allows you to create weapons from scratch. Scrolls, alloys, runes, blades, hilts - everything is combinable. Weapons have weight, length, strength, even "character". But it depends only on you whether they will become a legend.

The developers claim that the combat in the game is not just button-mashing. The player decides whether to stab, cut or slash. He also decides where to hit: armor, limbs or head. The game has over 50 types of enemies, each with their own behavior, weapons and weaknesses.

Deliver At All Costs

Release date May 22, 2025

Genre arcade racing

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

While SEGA is racking its brains over how to revive Crazy Taxi, Konami and the guys from Far Out Games decided not to bother and just created a game about irresponsible driving. Deliver At All Costs is an isometric arcade game about the most ridiculous courier in history, who is tasked with transporting absolutely ridiculous cargo. Imagine: you are transporting a giant marlin or, for that matter, an atomic bomb that is about to explode.

The action takes place in 1959 - the era of rock and roll, grease and the constant threat of nuclear apocalypse. The main character Winston Green is a courier with anger control problems (who among us is without flaws?), who takes on any orders, even the craziest. They have to deliver them in a city where everything is just begging to be destroyed. The locals, of course, are not happy when you demolish their houses, but who cares when you have a marlin on your roof?

The developers promise a three-act story where we learn about Winston's mysterious past and watch him gradually descend into madness. And to complete the atmosphere, all this is accompanied by music and radio commercials in the style of the 1950s.

F1 25

Release date May 30, 2025

Genre simulator

Platforms Windows, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

F1 25 is coming to players on May 30. This time, the Konnersport team has been added to the game, and you can fully experience it through career mode or My Team, from car to podium. The developers claim that creating your own team has also become more interesting: players can not only customize liveries and numbers, but also twist, scale and rotate logos.

The developers have also taken up the tracks: five of them, including Suzuka, have been given a new lease of life thanks to precise laser scanning. So even familiar corners now look different and feel more precise. F1 World has a co-op mode, so now you can get together with friends and race against AI drivers.

The Iconic Edition gives fans a bunch of bonuses – from the iconic Lewis Hamilton kit to the Formula 1 movie. There are also themed liveries, an APXGP team kit, access to F1 24 seasonal content, festive design elements, F3 idol drivers, virtual PitCoins and a lot of cosmetic goodies to make each race look personal. And if all this cosmetics are not interesting to you, the Standard Edition gives you a more modest but also nice set with basic content and a starting PitCoin bonus.

All of this is fine, of course, but with a caveat: the game has in-game purchases. This is Electronic Arts.
