Mazda CX-30 2025: Increased power and new systems

The Mazda CX-30 crossover is well known to regular visitors to the site. And such cars are often found on the roads of Ukraine. It would seem: what new can be told here? And what about the story about increasing power? After all, from now on, the Mazda CX-30 2025 model year crossover will receive an engine with 165 hp instead of 150 hp in the past. And what other changes should we expect from the Mazda CX-30 2025 model year car? So: the main questions about the Mazda CX-30 2025 – and the answers to these questions.

Is it possible to recognize the Mazda CX-30 2025? Are there any external changes?

No. For the first time, the Mazda CX-30 crossover arrived in Ukraine more than five years ago - since then, its design has remained largely unchanged. The body looks like a familiar C-class hatchback, which was simply raised above the road and emphasized the SUV essence with massive overlays around the perimeter: not very aesthetically pleasing, but quite practical. Of the interesting original solutions that still surprise us - surprisingly complex door bends that form S -shaped arcs-reflections. I remember that the SPORT BLACK version once brought an interesting decor: a darkened radiator grille frame, black mirrors and wheel rims. However, if we talk about the line of Mazda CX-30 versions of the 2025 model year, then all the details look familiar: chrome around the grille, wheel rims in gray-silver color, mirrors in the tone of the body.

The design of the Mazda CX-30 is well known; and the dimensions are also: length – 4.395 meters; width – 1.795 meters; height – 1.54 meters; wheelbase – 2.655 meters. Ground clearance is declared at 175-180 mm depending on the load. I will definitely note the dual exhaust pipes and the AWD logo on the trunk lid, because I appreciate Mazda cars for honesty: if the exhaust pipes are real, then they are definitely real; if it is called a crossover, then you will have all-wheel drive.

Maybe there are changes in the car interior?

In general, the interior of the Mazda CX-30 has not changed: the front panel with a bold diagonal line, chrome decor around the side ventilation deflectors, the massive center console acts as a podium for the automatic transmission lever, the armrest can be slid or opened. The instrument panel with classic indicators on the right/left and a display in the center, as well as the steering wheel with thin spokes - these are such carefully and perfectly worked out things that they could decorate any car by themselves.

If we talk about the evolution of the interior, recalling the first meeting with the Mazda CX-30 and the subsequent release of its new versions, then all the updates to the interior can be summed up in a few small changes: the central display has been enlarged, the location of the climate control buttons has been reformatted. And this time, again, only small changes have been added. So, instead of the stabilization system off button, now the eye notices a button to the left of the steering wheel, where a car is drawn that overcomes irregularities - a hint of an off-road mode? But why not combine such an OFF - ROAD mode with the SPORT mode switch located near the automatic transmission? Can it wait for the next model year?

The Mazda CX-30 interior has a semi-premium feel: chocolate-colored inserts, lots of soft plastic, elegant chrome decor. The driver's seat with an attractive steering wheel and instrument panel deserves a special mention. A separate remote control is allocated to control the multimedia system, and the central armrest can occupy different positions. The trunk volume of 422-430 liters (depending on the version) has not changed.

The interior of the Mazda CX-30 is pleasant in design and materials, but it still has one important drawback - its size, the amount of space. I have always noted that inside the Mazda CX-30, to put it mildly, there is no room to roam, considering the overall dimensions of the car. And here is another meeting that became a good reason for accurate measurements of the amount of space in the interior. Traditionally, we start from the front. So, the length of the driver's seat cushion is 50 cm; the distance from the edge of the cushion to the accelerator pedal varies in the range of 42-6 7 cm, depending on the longitudinal adjustment of the seat. The maximum amount of space in height, from the base of the driver's seat to the ceiling is 98 cm (measured along the backrest/headrest, the seat is set at an angle of 105-110 degrees).

Now about the rear seat and the trunk. The space in the rear seat for the legs/knees is 56-82 cm depending on the adjustments of the front seat (measured from the base of the rear sofa to the stop in the back of the front seat). The space in height for the torso/head is 96 cm (measured along the back and headrest from the base of the sofa and further to the ceiling). Finally, a few words about the trunk. Yes, the width of the trunk between the wheel arches is 100 cm, or a maximum of 118 cm taking into account the side niches. The depth of the trunk from the edge to the back of the rear sofa is 80 cm; if the rear sofa is folded, you can count on 145 cm (length to the edge of the back of the folded back sofa of the rear row) or a maximum of 159 cm (up to the stop in the back of the front passenger seat) .

I have always noted that the Mazda CX-30 interior is not very spacious and now, thanks to measurements, it can be compared with other cars. So: the amount of space in the Mazda CX-30 interior is one of the smallest among C-SUV cars, even some models of the lower class B-SUV offer a comparable amount of space. Well, here is an interim summary: the Mazda CX-30 crossover emphasizes its refinement in decoration instead of interior space.

Let's talk about real changes! What about increasing power?

Let me briefly remind you about the design of the car in general: in the case of the Mazda CX-30, we have a load-bearing body, MacPherson strut suspension in front and a transverse beam in the rear, a classic 6-speed "automatic" and front or all-wheel drive, a naturally aspirated gasoline 2-liter 4-cylinder engine. And it is precisely the engine that is now receiving the most attention! After all, earlier in Ukraine a version of the Mazda CX-30 with an engine with a capacity of 150 hp (6000 rpm) and a torque of 213 Nm (4000 rpm) was offered; and now this engine develops 165 hp (6000 rpm) and a torque of 213 Nm (4000 rpm); that is, we have an increase in power by 15 hp or +10% compared to its predecessor.

It is interesting that the increase in power occurred without changing the revolutions at which this power is achieved. After all, for atmospheric engines there is such an understanding as “revving”: this is when the torque remains more or less unchanged, but the maximum possible revolutions increase – accordingly, the value of power at high revolutions also increases. But here we do not observe this. I will say even more: earlier I noted that everything was fine with the Mazda CX-30 engine at high revolutions – it growled nicely and pulled similarly well; however, at low revolutions it was as if strangled: weak start and acceleration at 1.5-2-2.5 thousand.

And now – suddenly! – the car drove as if the restrictor had been removed from the throttle and additionally the weight had been untied at the back. Quite an active and cheerful start from a standstill, acceleration at 1.5-2-2.5 thousand already meets the expectations from a classic atmospheric 2-liter engine, you can actively maneuver on city streets. Moreover, even at high revs the same g-r-r-r-chan and good traction have not disappeared! Such a pleasant liveliness of character sets you up to expect better when measuring the dynamics. But no… During the measurements I get plus or minus the same result as before – about 10 seconds. This corresponds to the promised passport data, but it was like that before on a 150-horsepower engine. And where did the +10% of power go?

The rest of the observations are also generally similar to the previous ones. On the highway, we lack a 7-8-speed “automatic” or a significantly “higher” sixth gear. So, already at a speed of 100 km/h we have 2 - 2,1 thousand revolutions on the tachometer, with an increase in speed to 120 km/h we already have almost 2.5 thousand on the tachometer – and along with the revolutions, fuel consumption and noise also increase somewhat. Although the Mazda CX-30 crossover is not averse to driving fast, and not only in a straight line. Thanks to the low body and stiff suspension (and it shakes familiarly on every second bump), the car leans a little in turns. The steering wheel is average in weight and sharpness (2.7 turns from lock to lock), but the car’s reactions are quite prompt – it responds quickly and enters the turn.

The Mazda CX -30 crossover in the 2025 model year promises 165 hp of power and 213 Nm of torque, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds, as well as fuel consumption of 8.1 liters in the city and 5.7 liters on the highway. Now, real observations: in the city, the car consumes an average of 9.5 liters of fuel per 100 km of the road; on empty roads and an economical driving style, you can get even 8 liters; but in traffic jams and/or a dynamic driving style, get ready for 11+ liters; on the highway, when driving at a speed of 100 km/h, we have fuel consumption of 5.7-6 liters per 100 km of the road. Acceleration to the qualifying "hundred" takes 10 seconds; although, I admit, I expected improved dynamics from the increased power. At the same time: if we speak not in numbers, but in emotions, then the crossover really seems to have become more lively, cheerful, active; especially when starting from a standstill and accelerating in urban conditions. Two additional driving modes are provided - sports and off-road - and they can be turned on simultaneously.

How much does the 2025 Mazda CX-30 cost? Have the prices remained unchanged?

In general, no, they haven't changed. The Mazda CX-30 crossover is offered in Ukraine only with a 2-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, buyers can choose the type of drive (front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive) and one of three trim levels.

The Mazda CX -30 Style + version starts with a pretty good list of equipment: seven airbags, LED headlights, separate dual-zone climate control, head- up display, 7-inch color display in the center of the instrument panel, multimedia system with 10-inch display, cruise control, rear view camera, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, heated steering wheel and seats, 18-inch alloy wheels. The price of the Mazda CX -30 2.0 SkyActiv 165 6 AT Style + 2 WD is from UAH 1.206 million or $29 thousand.

The Mazda CX-30 Executive + version is one step above, adding the following: automatic low/high beam headlight switching system, leather interior trim, electric driver's seat adjustment with memory settings, adaptive cruise control, safe braking systems and driver load reduction during heavy traffic, lane departure warning and car position control relative to road markings, wireless charging, etc.; plus a version with all-wheel drive appears. The price of the Mazda CX-30 2.0 SkyActiv 165 6 AT Executive + 2 WD is from UAH 1.278 million or $30.8 thousand; the price of the Mazda CX-30 2.0 SkyActiv 165 6 AT Executive + 4 WD is from UAH 1.354 million or $32.6 thousand.

Finally, the maximum option is the Mazda CX -30 Premium with the following additional equipment: adaptive headlights, 360-degree all-round visibility, rear cross traffic warning system and automatic braking, IBS intersection assistant, BOSE audio, etc. The price of the Mazda CX-30 2.0 SkyActiv 165 6 AT Premium 4 WD is from UAH 1.443 million or $34.8 thousand.

The instrument panel with a display in the center, climate control, heated steering wheel and seats are present even in the starting configuration of the car; adaptive cruise control and leather interior with electric driver's seat adjustment are already from the middle. The maximum configuration of the Mazda CX-30 means a leather interior (but even in this case the front passenger has only mechanical adjustments), 360-degree all-round visibility, adaptive headlights. By the way, another change-update from the Mazda CX-30 2025: the appearance of the IBS (Intersection Brake Support) intersection assistant, which has supplemented the already quite extensive list of safety systems.

So: should I buy it or not?

If you need quality materials and refinement in the cabin instead of centimeters of space, if you need a good equipment instead of a low - cost offer, if you want a classic atmospheric engine and an “automatic” instead of strange hybrids and robots – then this is definitely the story of the Mazda CX-30. The increase in power and the appearance of new button systems are unlikely to be cardinal advantages; but if all this can be obtained without increasing the price – then why not? Previously, I wrote a similar phrase for such updates and here it is also ideal: the update of the Mazda CX-30 2025 model year does not radically change the car, but definitely adds a couple of nice bonuses.
