This year, Samsung decided to expand its flagship lineup and added a fourth model, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which features a minimal body thickness. Although for this, some compromises had to be made. The smartphone will soon go on sale and a full review will be published on Mezha. In the meantime, let's briefly share our first impressions of the smartphone.
Design
As mentioned above, the main feature of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge design is its minimal thickness, which is only 5.8 mm. Samsung claims that this is the thinnest smartphone in the Galaxy line. And there is no reason not to believe the company.
The smartphone is really very thin, which sometimes makes it seem like it could break very easily. Although, given the materials, this shouldn't happen. The case is thinner than a regular pencil or pen.
As for the materials, everything is great here: Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, and the frame is made of titanium. The general design features are close to the rest of the Galaxy S25 line, but there are also differences. On the front, everything is typical: a flat screen with very thin frames, a front camera in a small round hole and an under-screen fingerprint scanner.
From the back, you can see that instead of separate lenses of the rear camera system, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge received a common oval-shaped block, which houses a dual camera and a flash. It seems that the telephoto module could not be accommodated in such a thin body.
Despite the minimal thickness, the linear dimensions of the smartphone turned out to be quite large due to the large display diagonal. Externally, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge really looks and feels very nice, but it's too early to say how durable it is.
The smartphone is available in light and dark gray, as well as blue colors. It is protected against dirt and water according to the IP68 standard.
Display
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge features a large 6.7-inch LTPO Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a resolution of 3120x1440 pixels, a pixel density of 513 PPI, and a refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz. To extend battery life, there are lower-resolution modes. The picture can be adjusted and selected between natural and saturated, as well as manually adjust the color temperature. In addition, there is a mode in which the color tone of the display automatically adapts to the ambient lighting.
The screen is very high-quality and bright. It does not fade in bright sunlight, has a very saturated picture and maximum viewing angles. We will do hardware measurements during a full review.
Performance and interface
Like the rest of the flagship models, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is equipped with the top-of-the-line 3-nanometer Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with a maximum frequency of 4.47 GHz and an Adreno 830 graphics accelerator. 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, 256 or 512 GB of UFS 4.0 built-in storage. Communication capabilities include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, UWB and NFC, and support for GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO and QZSS global positioning systems. So we have a modern flagship with top performance. But the minimum thickness of the case did not allow for an effective cooling system, and the smartphone noticeably heats up, and the processor starts to throttle.
The software is presented by the OneUI 7 shell, already familiar from previous models, with the Galaxy AI assistant based on Android 15. Samsung works closely with Google, so the shell has deep integration of Google Gemini, and AI functions are available natively in a bunch of applications.
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone has a rear camera that includes only two modules: the main and ultra-wide-angle. There is no telephoto module. So the zoom is implemented in the form of a crop from the main camera. But there is also a positive point: unlike the younger Galaxy S25 and S25+, the ultra-wide-angle camera has autofocus.
The camera set looks like this:
- 200-megapixel wide-angle camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, 24 mm focal length, f/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus and optical stabilization;
- 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1/2.55-inch sensor, 13mm focal length, f/2.2 aperture and phase detection autofocus;
- 12-megapixel front camera with 1/3.2-inch sensor, 26mm focal length, f/2.2 aperture and phase detection autofocus.
We'll find out how high-quality the photos are on the smartphone during a full review.
Battery life
Another compromise that Samsung engineers had to make is the battery. It has a capacity of 3900 mAh, which is the smallest in the lineup. For comparison, the 6.2-inch Galaxy S25 has a 4000 mAh battery. So it is quite expected that battery life is a rather weak point of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and you will have to charge it often. Wired charging is supported at 25 W and wireless charging at 15 W.
Conclusions
Expanding the line of flagship smartphones is good and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge turned out to be interesting. But the prospects for popularity will depend on both the price and how critical the compromises that Samsung had to make to achieve such a thickness of the case will be for users. In the meantime, we are waiting for the start of sales in Ukraine.
