Epic Games’ annual State of Unreal event showcased new features in Unreal Engine 5.2, MetaHuman Animator technology, and the Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

Unreal Engine 5.2

One of the biggest additions to Unreal Engine 5.2 is the new procedural generation tools that Epic showed off in the Electric Dreams demo, where a Rivian pickup truck makes its way through impenetrable thickets. UE 5.2 preview is now available for familiarization.

MetaHuman Animator

Studio Ninja Theory uses MetaHuman Animator technology in their new project Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Even announcement trailer of the game 3 years ago was impressive with its animation, but now the facial animation generally gives the impression that you are in front of a real actor. At the same time, even an iPhone can be used to record animation in MetaHuman Animator – and the developer assures that this video was created in this way. The new feature will be available this summer.

Unreal Editor for Fortnite

Epic Games has finally introduced the Unreal Editor for Fortnite. It works side-by-side with Fortnite’s existing toolkit and is meant to be used to “design, develop and publish games and experiences directly into Fortnite.” Unreal Editor For Fortnite (UEFN) includes a new scripting language called Verse, which Epic Games says has “offers powerful customization capabilities such as manipulating or chaining together devices and the ability to easily create new game logic.” The Unreal Editor public beta for Fortnite is now available in the Epic Games Store.
