NVIDIA's new generation of graphics cards has performance issues in older games
Owners of the new NVIDIA RTX 50xx graphics cards are complaining about poor performance in older games such as Borderlands 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, BioShock Infinite, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The Shortcut writes about this.
The thing is, the new driver no longer supports the 32-bit version of PhysX. As one of the NVIDIA developers notes, 32-bit CUDA applications have become obsolete on GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs.
PhysX is NVIDIA's physics engine that allowed game developers to create realistic particle or clothing effects.
Without support for this technology, all calculations are transferred from the GPU to the CPU, which can lead to a significant decrease in performance - from 144+ frames per second to 30-40. Most games allow you to disable this technology in the settings, but there are some exceptions, for example, Borderlands 2.
For 64-bit games, nothing has changed yet, and the technology continues to work. Also, this issue is not observed on RTX 40 graphics cards and older models.
