In October 2024, OpenAI added a search engine to ChatGPT. At first, it was available only to paid subscribers, and later to all users with an OpenAI account. Now you can use ChatGPT Search without having an account or logging in.

"As with authorized access, ChatGPT can search the web and quickly provide you with up-to-date answers with links to relevant web sources directly in ChatGPT," OpenAI noted.
In most cases, ChatGPT will automatically search the web to find the most recent information relevant to your question. Users can also force the chatbot to search the web by clicking the Search button below the question bar.
In fact, today's announcement shows that OpenAI is ready to challenge Google 's dominance in search technology. For now, though, OpenAI is more focused on staying ahead of new companies like DeepSeek. Just last week, OpenAI announced its new AI model and a new ChatGPT feature called Deep Research. It also unveiled a new logo.
