Dozens of popular Reddit subreddits have begun to ban users from sharing links to X after the social network's owner Elon Musk made a Nazi salute during his speech in honor of Donald Trump's inauguration. This was reported by The Verge.
Among the communities that have already banned references to X in one way or another are r/formula1, r/nintendo, r/military, r/nursing, r/TwoXChromosomes, r/Christianity, r/DnD, r/SteamDeck, r/LiverpoolFC. Other subreddits are still considering the possibility of banning links in part or in full.
The proposal to ban the publication of links to X has gained great popularity on Reddit. Dozens of subreddits that have not yet made a final decision are actively discussing the issue with users or conducting polls to determine the next steps.
Elon Musk provided only one comment on his gesture during the inauguration, in which he blamed the "dirty tricks of the Democrats" and said he was tired of the attacks and accusations. Nevertheless, many right-wing extremist groups have expressed their support and admiration for the billionaire, and Musk's supporters continue to find explanations for his actions.
Apart from the billionaire's scandalous gesture, links to X on Reddit cause some inconvenience. Often, these links do not open properly and require an account on the social network. Because of this, some subreddits have introduced a new rule: users can only post screenshots from X if no other news sources exist.
Reddit also expressed its position on the ban on links to Musk's platform. According to the company's representative, Reddit does not impose any restrictions on this issue, and community moderators have the right to act in accordance with their beliefs.
