Game developers hope that Grand Theft Auto VI will cost $100

In his presentation "The State of Video Games in 2025", Matthew Ball, CEO of Epyllion Investment Company, noted that some game developers hope that Take-Two will increase the price of the standard version of Grand Theft Auto VI to $80-$100. Publishers believe that this will increase the value of their games, PC Gamer reports.

"In 2025, GTA 6's impact on industry playtime and spend will be mixed as it launches console-only and (severely) cannibalizes hours/spend on other titles. But some gamemakers hope GTA 6 will be priced at $80—$100, breaking the $70 barrier and helping $50 titles to move up to $60, $60 to $70, $70 to $80, etc." Ball wrote.

Ball also noted that if the price of Grand Theft Auto VI is $70, it will be the cheapest game in the series, adjusted for inflation. It will be 30% cheaper than the first game and 16-24% cheaper than GTA 4 and GTA 5.

Michael Douse, Director of Publishing at Larian Studios., responded to these statements. In his post in X, he noted that developers sometimes say things that should not be said.

"A good company raises salaries in line with inflation so that their staff don’t die or something, but games prices haven’t risen with inflation. This isn’t the reason the industry is in the shit for now, but it is an uncomfortable truth. On the other hand, the responsibility for a game developer is to make sure that the game they show lives up to that promise, and that investment from the player," Douse added.

Responding to other comments, Douse also noted that Rockstar still has enough influence and audience to raise the price of Grand Theft Auto VI, even if it causes outrage on social media. At the same time, he is not sure that other game developers and publishers will be able to do this without bad consequences for themselves, and it is likely that players will start waiting for discounts and sales even more to buy the game at a lower price.

We remind you that the same report "The State of Video Games in 2025" also reported that the PC gaming market has almost twice as many sales as the console market.
