Xiaomi overtakes Samsung and Apple to become the fastest growing smartphone maker in 2024

Xiaomi has overtaken Samsung and Apple to become the fastest growing smartphone manufacturer in 2024. This became known thanks to a report by Counterpoint Research, which covers the global market share of smartphone sales in the period from 2022 to 2024.

The company's global share grew by only 1% year-on-year, but it was enough to outpace Samsung and Apple, whose market share declined compared to 2023.

It is interesting that Xiaomi was able to achieve such success despite the lack of a significant presence in one of the largest markets, the United States. According to Counterpoint Research, the company's growth has been driven by its success in the premium segment and its focus on innovative marketing campaigns.

As for Apple and Samsung, even though they did not see growth in 2024, both companies still remain at the top of the global smartphone market.

Among them, Samsung had the largest global market share in 2024, with 19% of the total. Apple had 18% of the market share. However, both companies reduced their share by 1%, if we take into account annual growth.

In addition to statistical data, Counterpoint Research believes that generative AI will become the norm for mid-budget smartphones. By 2028, 9 out of 10 smartphones costing $250 or more will be equipped with hardware ready to work with generative AI.
