MediaTek recently announced the flagship Dimensity 9400 processor and is now preparing a simplified version of it, according to a DCS insider.

We are talking about the Dimensity 8400 chip. According to the leak, the new product will have eight cores with a 1+3+4 configuration. The chip will be built on TSMC’s 4nm process technology. It will be based on the Cortex-A725 core with a clock frequency of over 3 GHz.

Interestingly, it will not be just one Cortex-A725 core. MediaTek will reportedly include three more cores, each of which will run at around 3 GHz, but slightly lower than the main one.

For everyday tasks, MediaTek will use three Cortex-A720 cores. They should operate in the 2.0 GHz range. Dimensity 9400 has the same cores. This also applies to graphics. The Dimensity 8400 will have the same Immortalis-G925 GPU. But whether it will have the same number of cores is still unknown.

Dimensity 8400 will be released by the end of 2024. Most likely, Xiaomi and OPPO smartphones will be the first to receive the new MediaTek chip.
