Apple has updated the entire line of its peripherals – Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad– with a USB-C port. Such changes in Apple devices appeared thanks to the EU, which requires equipment manufacturers to unify charging.

Unfortunately, the European Union cannot influence some of the company’s other design decisions. In particular, the decision to leave the Magic Mouse charging port on the bottom of the mouse, where it first appeared in 2015 and has been both annoying and amusing for almost 10 years.

The first generation of Magic Mouse appeared back in 2009, but at that time, the computer mouse was powered by two AA batteries. The controversial decision to place the charging port on the bottom was made in the second generation, which was launched in 2015. This design has one major drawback: the mouse cannot be used while charging.

Over the almost ten years of this design’s existence, many accessories have appeared to “fix” the design. Some manufacturers have even shown additional mouse covers that make the mouse more ergonomic and immediately add the ability to charge and use it at the same time.

However, Apple doesn’t seem to be too concerned that users don’t understand the logic behind this design. The new Magic Mouse received only the usual port upgrade, from Lighting to USB-C, and the old price tag – $99 for the black and $79 for the white.

The Magic Keyboard with USB-C, TouchID, and a digital pad also retains the same price tag: $199 for the black and $179 for the white. The price of the Magic Trackpad hasn’t changed either, and it still costs $149/$129.

As a reminder, Apple today also unveiled an updated iMac with the M4 chip and released iOS 18.1, which will include the first features based on Apple Intelligence.
