YouTube creates a new label for unedited videos on the platform
YouTube is introducing a new label that indicates whether an uploaded video was shot with a real camera, with unaltered footage and sound. This is a small but important step in the fight against disinformation on the Internet. This was reported by The Verge.
This mark means that the video has been verified and its audio and video content has not been altered. YouTube relies on the C2PA standard to determine the authenticity of uploaded videos. This means that this feature will only work with recording devices and tools that support metadata.
Authors can still edit their videos, but the editing tools must support C2PA 2.1 or higher for this mark to appear.
Uploaded videos will be verified by Truepic’s digital content authentication service.
Google explains that the purpose of this innovation is to increase the transparency of content and make it possible to check that the video or sound is not exactly generated by artificial intelligence.
