Apple has been working on a technology that will allow the company's smartphones to be restored wirelessly for several years, and has finally implemented this feature in the newly unveiled iPhone 16. This was reported by 9to5Mac.
iOS 18 will include the same recovery feature for iPhone 16 that is already available on Apple Watch and Apple TV. On Apple smartphones, this feature will work through recovery mode and when another iPhone or iPad is nearby.
If the smartphone suddenly enters recovery mode, owners will need to place the iPhone 16 next to another iPhone or iPad, and the system will start booting again. Among other things, this will eliminate the need to use a computer to restore the iPhone.
On the Apple Watch, this wireless recovery feature was introduced with iOS 15.4 and watchOS 8.5, on the Apple TV, this feature appeared with iOS 17 and tvOS 17. Finally, with iOS 18, this feature will be available on the iPhone.
It is reported that any device that uses iOS 18 will be sufficient for recovery, but this feature is likely to be available only for iPhone 16 recovery. It is the new Apple smartphones that will have a new recovery partition that will be able to manage the recovery process regardless of whether the main iOS partition is enabled.
It is not yet known whether the company will be able to extend the possibility of such recovery to previous versions of the iPhone, or whether the new Apple smartphone has additional hardware improvements that add a new feature.
