Apple has announced the iPhone 16 at its own Glowtime event. The smartphone is designed to unleash the capabilities of Apple's artificial intelligence features.
The new iPhone will have a new A18 chip with a 3nm process technology, which is 30% faster than the iPhone 15 processor. It will have 6 productive and 4 efficient cores and consume 30% less power, meaning it will have better battery life. Also, for the needs of artificial intelligence, the iPhone 16 will have 8 GB of RAM.
The graphics processor has also been improved, and will now run 40% faster and consume 35% less power. Now owners of the basic versions will be able to enjoy AAA games that were previously available only for iPhone 15 Pro.
The iPhone 16 will be available in updated colors that are brighter than previous models. Also, the location of the dual camera on the back has been updated, which is now mounted vertically.
The iPhone 16 will also have more buttons, with an Action Button like the iPhone 15 Pro and a camera shutter button under the power button.
The iPhone 16 will be the first mass-market Apple smartphone to use Apple Intelligence technology, but it will be released in October and will be available only in a few markets. Among the previously unannounced features, the company showed Visual Intelligence search, which resembles Google Lens. This feature will allow users to search for information based on what the camera "sees".
Speaking of the camera, the iPhone 16 will have a 48-megapixel main camera that works as a 2-photo camera and a new 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with autofocus and macro.
The size of the iPhone 16 has not changed, the standard version will have a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and the iPhone 16 Plus will have a 6.7-inch screen with the same refresh rate. The peak brightness of the screen will be 2000 nits, and the minimum brightness will be 1 nit.
The iPhone 16 will start at $799 for 128 GB of storage, and the iPhone 16 Plus will start at $899 with the same storage configuration. The devices will go on sale on September 20, 2024.
