In preparation for the launch of the RTX 50 line, NVIDIA is cutting production of the RTX 40 series. It is reported that the production volume may be reduced by as much as 50%, PC Gamer writes, citing Taiwanese media outlet UDN.

A certain reduction in production is a typical practice for companies before the launch of a new product. Manufacturers take such measures to ensure that retailers' shelves are not filled with cheap old stock.

However, in this case, UDN claims that the reduction in chip production could be between 30% and 50%. This could have a significant impact on the price of current graphics cards.

The RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 did not sell well at launch, but over time, sales have increased significantly. This is partly due to the fact that high-end GPUs are being bought up to power small artificial intelligence servers. Sales were also boosted by the price reduction of the RTX 4070 after the launch of the RTX 4070 Super.

The reduction in production indicates that NVIDIA is preparing to announce the Blackwell-based RTX 50 series. It is likely that this will happen in September of this year, and the new graphics cards will appear on store shelves in late October or early November.
