Microsoft fires one of its key inclusion teams
Microsoft has laid off a large team responsible for diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) at the company, according to a letter to employees from one of its executives. This was reported by IGN.
The letter was written by the head of one of the company’s key DEI departments. The letter stated that as of July 1, 2024, due to “changes in business needs,” this manager and his team were being laid off.
Among other things, the letter said that due to Project 2025, a set of conservative and right-wing policy proposals to change the US federal government, DEI departments are losing their relevance in most other large companies.
The letter said that many DEI departments, which began to emerge after the Black Lives Matter movement, are now being overestimated. Nevertheless, this executive noted that in a few years at Microsoft, the inclusion department was able to “move mountains.”
At the same time, the executives were accused of “discrimination, harassment, and toxicity directed against them during their work at the company.” Microsoft has not yet commented on the situation.
