Noah Hawley talks about the Alien series, which will be a prequel to Ridley Scott’s franchise

American producer and director Noah Hawley spoke about the upcoming series Alien, which will be a prequel to Ridley Scott’s franchise of the same name. He shared the details of the project during an interview on KCRW radio, writes The Hollywood Reporter.

It seems that the series will be more similar in spirit to the first Alien films. Noah Hawley said he prefers the retro-futurism of the first two films. But the idea that was embodied in the films Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, does not look very clear.

As you know, these films present a controversial backstory, according to which aliens were created as biological weapons by a mysterious race called the Engineers.

“For me, and for a lot of people, this ‘perfect life form’ — as it was described in the first film — is the product of millions of years of evolution that created this creature that may have existed for a million years out there in space. The idea that, on some level, it was a bioweapon created half an hour ago, that’s just inherently less useful to me,” he said.

Noah Hawley also gave a description of what Alien is really about. According to him, this is not just a great movie about monsters. It is the story of humanity trapped between a parasitic past and a future with artificial intelligence that is trying to kill people.

“It’s the story of humanity trapped between its primordial parasitic past and its AI future, and they’re both trying to kill us. So, there’s nowhere to go. It’s really a story of does humanity deserve to survive? Does humanity’s arrogance in thinking that we’re no longer food and its arrogance in creating these AI beings who we think will do what we tell them — but ultimately might lose their mind — is there a way out?” added the director.

The sci-fi series was announced back in 2020, and work on it began in 2022. Last August, the process was suspended due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood, but filming is expected to resume soon.
