NASA and Lockheed Martin officially unveil X-59 supersonic aircraft
NASA and Lockheed Martin have officially unveiled the X-59 supersonic aircraft. This is stated in the agency’s report.
“In just a few short years we’ve gone from an ambitious concept to reality. NASA’s X-59 will help change the way we travel, bringing us closer together in much less time,” NASA said.
Upon completion of the deployment, the project team will move on to the next steps in preparation for the first flight of the aircraft, which is scheduled for this year.
After the flight tests, the X-59 will fly over several selected cities in the United States. In this way, experts will collect information about the sound generated by the aircraft and how people perceive it.
Eventually, the aircraft will be transferred to NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in California. The X-59 is expected to fly at 1.4 times the speed of sound.
