Global PC shipments fell by 13.9% in 2023, growth expected in 2024 – IDC

Global shipments of traditional PCs in the fourth quarter of 2023 decreased by 2.7% to 67.1 million units compared to the same period in 2022. A year earlier, this figure reached 68.9 million units. This is evidenced by preliminary estimates of the International Data Corporation (IDC).

According to experts, the positive aspect of this situation is that the market decline seems to have reached the bottom. Experts expect growth as early as 2024.

As for the results for the past year in general, global PC shipments have tentatively decreased by 13.9% compared to 2022. Last year they amounted to 259.5 million units, the year before they reached 301.5 million units.

“While the market was down again in 2023 in terms of shipments, there is a lot of positive momentum for PCs looking forward. While AI has clearly captured everyone’s attention, it shouldn’t be overlooked that 2024 is expected to be a strong year for commercial PC refresh, and the advancements around gaming PCs continues to drive market excitement,” IDC noted.

Earlier, analysts at Canalys predicted that global PC shipments would reach 248.5 million units in 2023. They also said that in 2024, shipments should increase to 267.3 million units.
