The lawsuit states that the defendants should be held liable for “billions of dollars in statutory and actual damages” related to “billions of dollars in statutory and actual damages.”
The lawsuit also calls on the court to force the companies to destroy any chatbot models and training data that use copyrighted material from The Times.
The lawsuit also states that the artificial intelligence models used in ChatGPT and Copilot may pose a threat to the media, as these models use The Times’ content and style to poach readers.
According to The Times, ChatGPT and Copilot users can only receive an AI response based on media materials and not follow links to original news, which threatens further business development.
