CyberRunner AI robot outperforms humans in a board game that it completed in 15 seconds
Researchers from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) have created an artificial intelligence robot called CyberRunner. According to scientists, it has outperformed humans in the popular game “Labyrinth,” writes Bloomberg.
The AI robot guided a small metal ball through the maze, tilting the board and avoiding holes in its surface. It took CyberRunner only six hours to master this game.
During the experiment, the robot used two handles to control the playing surface, which required developed fine motor skills and spatial thinking. In addition, the game itself requires real-time strategic thinking, quick decisions, and precise actions. CyberRunner completed the maze in less than 15 seconds.
Researchers say that this is one of the first times that artificial intelligence has defeated humans in a direct physical application.
Industrial robots already perform repetitive, precise production tasks. But on-the-fly adjustments like those demonstrated by CyberRunner are a new level. The system can think, learn, and evolve while performing physical tasks.
CyberRunner uses the camera and learns from experience. During the maze, it tried to cheat. But scientists intervened and warned the robot to avoid such actions.
