Google Messages will get an updated contact page

In Google Messages, you can now view information about a contact right in the app. Previously, users were redirected to the contact’s full Google page.

According to 9to5Google, the new page will display the name, avatar, number, and a button to go to the Google contact. There will also be notification settings, a toggle to send only SMS and MMS messages, and a lock button.

In addition, Google will indicate the status of end-to-end encryption in the chat with the option to “Check Encryption”.

Another feature of the new contact page will be a separate carousel for the latest images shared in the chat. And interestingly, “elements will expand and contract as you scroll,” and their shapes will change from rounded rectangles to squares and vertical ovals.

Currently, the new functionality is being distributed only to beta testers. It is not yet known when it will be available to all users.
