Electronic Arts has patented a new system that will allow players to voice their characters

Electronic Arts has patented a new system that will allow players to voice their game characters, reports Insider Gaming.

“A computer-implemented method of generating speech audio in a video game is provided. The method includes inputting, into a synthesizer module, input data that represents speech content,” the patent’s abstract reads.

According to the scheme, which is also presented in the patent, the process will be as follows: the player will record his speech into a synthesizer, which will be passed through a converter and vocoder to the game. After that, potentially, the game character will be able to speak in the player’s voice.

Besides recording their own voices, the patent will also allow players to write lines for the character via text input.

It is currently unknown how EA will use this system in the future, if at all.
