Comparing the battery life of the Google Pixel 8 Pro with the iPhone 15 Pro Max was not surprising

Flagship smartphones deliver the best performance, have the best cameras, and additional features, so it would be a shame if they couldn’t last for a long time. That’s why battery life is still one of the most prominent and important indicators for such devices.

The YouTube channel PhoneBuff has released a fresh comparison of the battery life of one of the top competitors – the new Google Pixel 8 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As with the performance test, the test consisted of a series of everyday tasks, such as making an hour-long voice call, messaging, browsing, using social networks, the camera, playing games, etc.

And this time the results… were not surprising.

Before starting the test, the brightness of both displays and the volume level of the speakers were set to the same level. Thus, from the very beginning of the test, the iPhone had a slight advantage, which even began to decrease during browsing. After increasing the gap when watching videos, the difference did not change when the game was running, but continued to increase with the launch of navigation.

The last application in the test was Snapchat, which completely depleted the remaining battery of the Google Pixel 8 Pro, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max had 18% of the charge left.

It’s also worth noting that the battery capacity of the Google Pixel 8 Pro is larger and amounts to 5,050 mAh, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has 4,441 mAh. The devices also have the same 6.7-inch displays, but the Pixel has a 4-nanometer Tensor G3 processor, while the iPhone has a 3-nanometer A17 Pro.

Still, Apple’s better optimization allowed us to restart the tested apps cyclically for another hour and 44 minutes after this test. According to PhoneBuff, the remaining battery was enough for almost two hours of browsing or more than 3.5 hours of Instagram.

The final figures were 25 hours and 53 minutes for the Google Pixel 8 Pro (of which 9 hours and 53 minutes of active use and 16 hours of standby time), and 27 hours and 44 minutes for the iPhone 15 Pro Max (11 hours and 44 minutes of active use and 16 hours of standby time).
