Have you heard of Transsion? It is now the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world
Transsion, a Chinese manufacturer of smartphones under the Tecno, Infinix, and Itel brands, has become the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. This achievement is highlighted in recent market reports from Canalys, IDC and Omdia.
Despite its growth, Transsion remains relatively little known in Europe and North America, as it mainly operates in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania. In Ukraine, you can also find Tecno and Infinix models, which are available in the budget segment and do not occupy a significant market share. But, for example, in Africa, Transsion has already surpassed Samsung and Xiaomi in terms of sales.
Transsion’s growth is noticeable in the third quarter of this year, making it one of the few smartphone manufacturers to show an increase in shipments in this period. IDC and Omdia reports ranked Transsion among the world’s top five smartphone makers in the second quarter of this year, while Canalys noted the achievement in the third quarter.
Despite these small discrepancies, all three studies agree that Transition is now among the Top 5 global manufacturers, behind Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, and Oppo. Counterpoint Research, however, places Vivo in fifth place, but also recognizes Transition’s growth in the third quarter.
Transsion’s success is attributed to its strategic focus on emerging markets, which are showing strong demand compared to more developed markets. In particular, the Middle East and Africa recorded year-on-year growth in smartphone sales in the third quarter, which benefited Transsion. Canalys analyst Amber Liu notes that Transsion, along with Xiaomi, has effectively capitalized on the recovery in emerging markets with competitive products and channel engagement.
Looking ahead, we can say that the sustainability of Transion’s position in the global market remains in question. According to forecasts, in 2023, the demand for smartphones will decrease.
