Announcement and preliminary tests of the Snapdragon X Elite platform
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has announced the most powerful computing ARM processor for PCs – Snapdragon X Elite. The developer promises high performance, accelerated processing of artificial intelligence tasks, and very high energy efficiency (laptops are said to have a battery life of up to several days).
In this development, the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU module processes artificial intelligence information. It provides enhanced video conferencing, security algorithms, and increased performance. The Qualcomm AI Engine is said to be capable of processing generative AI LLM models with 13 million parameters and supports Windows Studio Effects and many other applications.
The Snapdragon X Elite also includes intelligent security features that help protect your cloud connectivity. The Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit, which runs on Microsoft Pluton TPM, offers full memory encryption and support for Microsoft Secured-core PC. The Micro NPU module inside the Qualcomm Sensing Hub is responsible for device security, authentication, and data privacy.
Comparative tests were made public at a presentation during the Snapdragon Summit. Compared to Intel’s mobile processors, the new product promises significantly higher performance while consuming 60-70% less power. As for Apple’s M2 chip, the developer expects about a 50% peak performance increase in tests Geekbench.
The integrated GPU should be 74% more energy efficient and twice as powerful as the GPU of the Intel Core i7-13800H processor.
Ready PCs based on Snapdragon X Elite are expected around mid-2024.
