Ubuntu 23.10 cannot be downloaded due to distorted Ukrainian translation

The new version of Ubuntu - 23.10 - has been released, but the image is temporarily unavailable for download because one of the users distorted the Ukrainian translation with racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic phrases. This was reported on the official social media pages and on the Ubuntu forum.

"We have identified hate speech from a malicious contributor in some of our translations submitted as part of a third party tool outside of the Ubuntu Archive.

The Ubuntu 23.10 image has been taken down and a new version will be available once the correct translations have been restored…

The developers are currently working on correcting the distorted translation before making the ISO available for download again.

The attacker who added the racist and homophobic phrases to the translation is a GitHub user named Danilo Negrilo. Портал OMG! Ubuntu portal published the data of this user, who turned out to be a Russian Semyon Rindiy, one of the employees of Canonical in San Francisco. They also clarified that he had already been fired from the company and was facing deportation, but this information was removed from the story almost immediately, and company representatives did not comment on it.
