Max Payne 2 remake is a very big project
While Remedy Entertainment is preparing for the release of Alan Wake II, which will be released on October 27, 2023, the company was asked about the next games. Thus, VGC asked Remedy’s creative director Sam Lake about the progress of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne remakes.
“It is a significant undertaking in the sense that even if they are old games, just thinking about bringing them up to modern standards and combining them into one, you can see that it’s a big, big project,” said Lake.
When asked by journalists whether he would return to the role of Max Payne in the remakes, Sam Lake only laughed and refused to comment.
The remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, which will be released as a compilation under one “cover” on Windows PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, was announced in April 2022. The game uses the Northlight engine, the same one that powers Quantum Break, Control, and Alan Wake II.
The remake became possible due to an agreement between Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games/Take-Two. The fact is that since 2002, the rights to the series have belonged to Rockstar Games, not Remedy.
Max Payne 1/2 remake is not the only project that Remedy Entertainment is currently working on. Control 2, a PvE spin-off of Control codenamed Condor, and a cooperative multiplayer game codenamed Vanguard, which Remedy is developing for Tencent, are also in development.
