Elon Musk says that last year he refused to allow Ukraine to activate Starlink near Crimea in case of emergency

Elon Musk denies shutting down the Starlink satellite communications network near the Crimean coast in 2022. But he claims that he refused to activate the connection at Ukraine’s request. The billionaire wrote about this on the X platform.

This is how he commented on the information that last year he foiled an attack by Ukrainian troops on the Russian Navy. This was reported by CNN with reference to an excerpt from the billionaire’s biographical book written by Walter Isaacson.

The biographer claims that Elon Musk secretly asked his engineers to disable the Starlink network off the coast of Crimea. So when the Ukrainian drones with explosives approached the Russian fleet, they lost communication and were brought ashore.

“The Starlink regions in question were not activated. SpaceX did not deactivate anything,” he noted.

According to Elon Musk, the Ukrainian authorities requested an emergency activation of Starlink.

“There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol. The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor. If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation,” explained Elon Musk.

At the same time, he believes that “both sides should agree to a truce.”

“Both sides should agree to a truce. Every day that passes, more Ukrainian and Russian youth die to gain and lose small pieces of land, with borders barely changing. This is not worth their lives,” he added.

Apparently, the billionaire “forgot” that it was Russia that attacked Ukraine, killing its people and destroying its territory. At the same time, such “advice” again suggests the billionaire’s political sympathies. Earlier, The New Yorker published information that this was the reason why SpaceX blocked Starlink for the Ukrainian military.
