Ukrainian drone SkyKnight 2 – features and characteristics of the AI drone
Fast, quiet, and equipped with artificial intelligence – all this is about the Ukrainian drone SkyKnight 2, which has been approved for operation by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The characteristics and features of the UAV are described in ArmyInform.
Serhiy, the drone’s chief engineer, explained that SkyKnight 2 can be used to hit targets by self-destruction (kamikaze type) or by dropping the payload on the target in a controlled maneuver.
“The drone is optionally equipped with a mesh network module and a specialized flight core with an AI module. The maximum payload the drone can carry is two and a half kilograms. SkyKnight 2 is quite fast, powerful, and quiet at the same time,” he added.
In addition, the drone has an automatic flight mode. This means that after the operator identifies the target, the drone is controlled by the onboard computer.
“Even if communication is lost due to jamming by enemy electronic warfare, our drone will still reach the target defined by the operator,” the chief engineer emphasized.
He also shared that the development is easy to operate, and an operator with piloting skills on DJI, Autel, and stabilized platforms will be able to quickly master SkyKnight 2. He will only need to learn the features that have been added to this drone.
“Even if the operator is a complete beginner, we can train him or her in a week. Also, experienced operators of the units to which we transfer drones come to us for additional training, during which we give a short course on additional functionality. Those guys who have been trained by us say about SkyKnight 2: “Everything is simple, accessible, and understandable,” Sergiy emphasized.
The development can work on the target, even if it does not stand still. And thanks to artificial intelligence, the drone is not afraid of enemy trench electronic warfare and anti-drone guns.
The manufacturers of SkyKnight 2 noted that their drone was already ready before they submitted the documentation for obtaining approval for operation to the Ministry of Defense.
“Subsequently, we created a test methodology program together with the Ministry of Defense, conducted factory tests and received the relevant protocols. And after that, we received a certificate of approval for operation. In terms of time, all the procedures took us about a month,” they shared.
The company also noted that the Ministry of Defense fully supported and assisted the manufacturer in the process of paperwork.
