PlayStation 5 sales exceed 40 million — supply issues finally resolved
Sony officially announced that sales of the PlayStation 5 console exceeded 40 million units as of July 16 — 32 months after its launch on November 5, 2020. Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan bragged on the company’s official blog.
According to him, Sony managed to overcome the production and supply issues created by the COVID epidemic – it took months for the company and its partners to normalize the supply chains and finally meet the demand that managed to accumulate during the long period of shortage of consoles (yes, only the period from January to March of this year sold 6.3 million PS5).
It is also worth noting that due to these problems with supply, the PlayStation 5 still gave way to its predecessor in terms of sales, which according to this indicator remains the record holder among all Sony consoles: 40 million PS4s were once sold in 30 months.
