The Wall Street Journal: Elon Musk uses microdoses of ketamine to treat depression
Billionaire Elon Musk has been telling people about using small doses of ketamine. The CEO of Tesla has also been seen using the drug recreationally. This is written by Insider with reference to investigation by The Wall Street Journal, which says that such methods of stimulation have become part of the working culture of Silicon Valley.
According to people in the know, Elon Musk takes full doses of the drug at parties. The billionaire himself tweeted about using ketamine to treat depression after the WSJ article was published.
“Depression is overdiagnosed in the US, but for some people it really is a brain chemistry issue,” he wrote. “But zombifying people with SSRIs for sure happens way too much. From what I’ve seen with friends, ketamine taken occasionally is a better option”.
Ketamine is a “dissociative drug” that can affect a person’s visual and auditory senses and cause a “detachment from reality,” according to the data of the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
Musk’s drug use was known before. For example, the billionaire said in 2022 that he and the entire SpaceX company had to undergo drug testing for a year after he smoked weed on a podcast with Joe Rogan in 2018.
Last year, The New York Times reported that the billionaire often enjoys discussing the benefits of psychedelics with friends and has attended nearly every Burning Man festival over the past 20 years.
Overall, according to The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk is one of several executives in Silicon Valley who openly use psychedelics. One of them is Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who, according to the publication, used psilocybin mushrooms.
Previously Insider reported that Brin attended a party in Los Angeles last summer where guests were openly using psychedelic mushrooms and his colleagues said he was interested in them in general. It is also known that members of Founders Fund – an elite venture capital firm in San Francisco that has invested in such large companies as SpaceX, Airbnb and Spotify – organize parties with psychedelics, the publication notes.
