The Pentagon overestimated military aid to Ukraine by $6.2 billion

The Pentagon revealed that, due to an accounting error, it overestimated the amount of funding for the supply of ammunition, missiles and other equipment to Ukraine by $6.2 billion, writes Reuters.

Back in May 2023, it became known about an accounting error of $3 billion, now it turned out to be twice as much!

Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said the additional funding was discovered after officials more thoroughly investigated the situation and refined protocols for evaluating equipment based on Financial Management Regulations and Defense Department policies.

According to a Pentagon spokeswoman, $6.2 billion consists of $3.6 billion for fiscal year 2023 and $2.6 billion for fiscal year 2022. These errors did not affect the amount of aid under the presidential mandate or support for Ukraine.

Previously Reuters wrote that the discovery of this error may prompt Washington to send additional aid to Ukraine in this amount.
