NVIDIA has decided to speed up the expansion of the RTX 40xx family of video cards. According to previous plans, the GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB model was supposed to go on sale only in July, but for some reason, the developers rescheduled the launch of the new product. A presentation ahead of the original schedule is a rare treat in this market. Something must have happened. Be that as it may, the initiative is commendable.
A document with a detailed plan of preparatory work before the launch of the GeForce RTX 4060 got into the network. According to the available information, the chronological sequence is as follows:
- June 9: preparation of lists of press and influencers
- June 12: start of sending video cards to the channel under NDA
- June 21: distribution of test copies for reviewers
- June 28: release of MSRP model reviews
- June 29: release of reviews of models with a higher MSRP price; start of sales
Interestingly, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 is also mentioned in the document, but there are no details on it yet, other than that it will hit the shelves later in July.
Returning to the GeForce RTX 4060, we remind you that the video card will be based on the AD107-400 graphics processor with 3072 CUDA computers. The model will be offered exclusively in a version with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory, running at an effective 17,000 MHz. Like the older model, the basic version of the series will receive a 128-bit bus, and taking into account the reduction in memory frequency, the total bandwidth will be 272 GB/s. An option that deserves special attention is excellent economy. The declared TBP of the video card is only 115 W.
Even during the announcement NVIDIA compared the capabilities of GeForce RTX in its presentation 4060 with those for the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB, assuring a 20% advantage of the novelty over its predecessor in cases with classic rendering. In the case of using scaling technology with frame generation, the promised increase is up to +70%.
The developers make a big bet on the support of DLSS 3. In general, intelligent scaling is a hot topic right now, so it's no surprise that NVIDIA is boasting about success in this field. Californians recently claimed that the list of games and apps with DLSS support already exceeds 300 positions. However, DLSS 3 is currently implemented in 37 projects.
Recently, Diablo IV was added to this list, a detailed review of which we already have. Not that DLSS 3 is needed there like air, but why not.
Returning to the GeForce RTX 4060, we remind you that the recommended price of the video card is $299 for the American market and €329 for Europe.
What will the community say, are there any chances of success with such price tags? We invite you to discuss in the comments.
