Twitter will get rid of inactive accounts
As Elon Musk tweeted, Twitter is going to “purge” accounts that haven’t been active in the past few years.
His message didn’t include any additional details, so of course users began to wonder how exactly this would play out. When asked by John Carmack (yes, the one) if this meant that such accounts would be completely deleted, along with their tweets, Elon Musk replied that they would be “archived” and that such a move was necessary to free up abandoned names.
There are no official explanations regarding the “purge” yet: on the Inactive Account Policy page, you can only find a recommendation to log into Twitter at least once every 30 days and a warning that otherwise the account may be deleted. At the same time, in April, the rules were much softer — then the service advised to log in at least once every six months, so that the account was considered active.
