Google will change search results in favor of conversations with artificial intelligence and content creators

Google plans to change search results to integrate answers generated by artificial intelligence, reports The Wall Street Journal. These changes are in response to significant shifts in the way people access information on the Internet, including the emergence of chatbots such as ChatGPT.

The company plans to include conversations with artificial intelligence, as well as short videos and social media posts in its search results. This will mark a departure from the traditional “10 blue links” format that has made Google the leading search engine for decades.

Google plans to make its search engine more “visual, snackable, personal, and human,” with a particular focus on the interests of young people around the world, according to company documents and people familiar with the matter. The company plans to include more results from content creators in search results by supporting them, just as it has historically done with websites.

At its annual I/O developer conference on May 10, Google is expected to unveil new features that will allow users to have conversations with an artificial intelligence program. The project, codenamed Magi, is part of the company’s broader plan to answer queries that aren’t easily answered through traditional web results. This involves a greater emphasis on providing visual and multimedia content in response to user requests.

Google management emphasizes that the number of active websites has stabilized in recent years, and Internet users are increasingly turning to other ways to find information on various topics. The company plans to respond to this trend by providing more personalized and human-centric search results that include a variety of media formats.

To this end, the company has already begun to integrate messages from online forums and short videos into search results. However, in the future, according to internal documents and information from people familiar with the matter, it plans to put even more emphasis on these materials.

In preparation for the upcoming I/O conference, Google invited a large group of employees to test Magi and provide feedback on its capabilities. In general, the new strategy of Google’s search engine is designed to make search results more interactive, interesting and tailored to the needs of individual users.

Google’s plans to integrate generative AI responses into its search engine will be another attempt by the company to compete with OpanAI and Microsoft, whose collaboration allowed very quickly to add new features to Bing‘s search engine. On the other hand, Google’s first attempt to open its own Bard chatbot to the general public was not very successful and was criticized even by the company’s employees themselves.
