Apple has released an update with Rapid Security Responses for iOS, iPadOS and macOS
Previously, operating systems for Apple smartphones, tablets and computers received the function Rapid Security Responses — security updates that aim to quickly fix critical issues. Such updates can be installed automatically and without a full system update. Users started receiving the first such update yesterday evening.
Rapid Security Responses are a new type of software release for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. They deliver important security improvements between software updates — for example, improvements to the Safari web browser, the WebKit framework stack, or other critical system libraries. They may also be used to mitigate some security issues more quickly, such as issues that might have been exploited or reported to exist “in the wild,” as the company describes the latest updates.
At just 85MB, the update downloads and installs very quickly. The Rapid Security Responses function can be disabled, but it is noted that even in this case, some system files will be installed automatically.
Updates are available to users of current iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1, and macOS 13.3.1 systems. After yesterday’s release, they get an additional index — (a).
