ROG Phone 7 – a series of gaming smartphones from ASUS with a 165 Hz screen

ASUS has introduced a new series of ROG gaming smartphones, which includes two models: ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. Both novelties have a similar design and characteristics, the Ultimate version is distinguished by the ROG Vision matrix display on the back panel and the additional AeroActive Portal cooling system. The latter automatically opens a hole on the back cover for better heat dissipation.

ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate have a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2448×1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 20.4:9, a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a response time of only 1 ms. In addition, the display has a typical brightness of 1000 nits (1500 nits peak in automatic mode) and is covered with protective glass Gorilla Glass Victus. Traditionally for the ROG series of smartphones, there are no cutouts in the screen of the new products.

Both models are built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform with Adreno 740 graphics. ASUS claims that the GameCool 7 cooling system, which has a vapor chamber design with a fast cycle, provides a 168% increase in the efficiency of heat removal.

For ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, a removable cooler AeroActive Cooler 7 is additionally available, which allows you to cool the smartphone case even better.

In addition to the top Qualcomm processor, the smartphones received 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM with a speed of 8,533 Mbit/s and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Wireless modules include Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be), Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC. GPS, Glonass, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and NavIC satellite systems are used for positioning.

Separately, it is worth noting that in addition to USB Type-C for charging, ROG smartphones still have a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones.

ASUS doesn’t particularly focus on camera capabilities in its gaming smartphones, but the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate have three modules: a 50-megapixel wide-angle (Sony IMX766), a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera. The front camera in smartphones is 32 megapixels.

The manufacturer paid much more attention to the sound, according to ASUS, smartphones received 50% larger stereo speakers, which were configured in cooperation with Dirac audio specialists. At the same time, ROG Phone 7 models can provide 2.1-channel sound if you connect an external AeroActive Cooler 7 cooler, which has a built-in subwoofer.

For more efficient gaming, the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate are also equipped with tactile AirTrigger buttons, which can be configured through the built-in ROG Gaming software by assigning the desired gaming actions to them.

The ROG Vision matrix color display in the Ultimate version can show animations triggered by system events such as charging status, incoming calls, and more. Users can also create their own personalized animations.
