Microsoft will change the purpose of the Print Screen button in Windows 11

Since Windows 95, the Print Screen button has always performed the same function: instantly take a screenshot of the current screen and save it to the clipboard. However, this should change soon: Microsoft decided that it would be better if this button would call the Snipping Tool. This change was discovered by the Windows Latest in the latest builds Windows 11 Beta 22621.1546 and 22624.1546.

It should be noted that you can change the assignment of the Print Screen button to launch the Snipping Tool instead of taking a screenshot now: in the “Settings – Accessibility – Keyboard” menu. So Microsoft will actually only change the function of this button by default: it will still be possible to switch to the traditional behavior of Print Screen, because this option in Settings is not going anywhere.

Snipping Tool is now launched by default with the Win-Shift-S key combination, which is quite inconvenient for such a useful utility: in addition to capturing the entire screen itself, it can create a screenshot of the selected window or an arbitrary fragment of the Desktop, automatically save the file in the system gallery, allows you to perform basic editing, and recently – even record video.
