Fedorov: Ukraine does not plan to restrict TikTok, and sending draft notices in the messenger is not technically possible yet
Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Development of Education, Science, and Technology Mykhailo Fedorov gave an interview to Liga.net, in which he answered questions about the restriction of the use of TikTok in Ukraine and the sending of subpoenas through messengers.
Against the background of the fact that in many countries officials are prohibited from using the application of the short video service TikTok on official smartphones, Mykhailo Fedorov was asked whether Ukraine plans to resort to similar restrictions. According to the minister, the government does not yet have such plans and they are not being discussed yet.
“We are closely following what is happening in other countries, but there are no such conversations and concrete actions in this direction yet,” Mykhailo Fedorov commented on the restrictions on the use of TikTok.
As for the possibility of sending draft notices to conscript Ukrainians via messengers, which was previously stated by People’s Deputy and member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Fedir Venislavskyi, according to Mykhailo Fedorov, it will not be possible to do this year.
“This cannot be done until there is a quality registry of conscripts and until an identifier, which is a verified phone number, is attached to the registry. And we do not have verification of the phone number and person in the state. Therefore, it is technically impossible to do it. I’m not even talking now about the Constitution and regulations. It is technically impossible to do this conditionally this year, but someday it can be implemented,” Mykhailo Fedorov explained.
